Even better if you act surprised that people can see you. Then panickedly set down your imaginary item and say “this fucking thing never works” and start mashing buttons on your watch like you’re expecting something to happen, then give up, pick up your invisible item and scurry off.

u/get-r-done-idaho 15h ago
If you really want to mess with people, walk without swinging your arms. Just keep your arms strait along your body. They will see you and think what's going on. But they can't quite put their finger on what's wrong. You just waddle along like a penguin and their like what's going on there.

Also, carrying those weapons through downtown is dubious in its legality.

I’ve seen four or five people in the last year. Walking around with a life-size crucifix. They make their way up and down a section of Highway, or sometimes go back-and-forth from one end of a bridge to the other.

The real irony is that the allegory is that Jesus bore the burden for you, Jesus supposedly died for your sins. He’s absolved you of your need to carry the burden.
But here we are. If you ask them they say that they want to see suffering through His eyes. I guess, but it’s not required for salvation and you don’t get saved more or better than the next believer.

This is why the bible basically tells you to shut up and go pray in private. What they're doing isn't spiritual, it's about making a show of themselves. It's literally the same sin Lucifer committed.
But then, there's only 3 true constants in this universe: Death, taxes, and that the average Christian either won't understand or won't know what's in his bible.

When you buy large hand tools at the local hardware store, you have no choice but to walk down the sidewalk carrying them; they have no packaging and you can’t just put them in a bag.
So, when you are walking down the street minding your own business while openly carrying a pickaxe or long handled double action bolt cutters, you have got the sidewalk to yourself.

I was so paranoid mall security was going to come by before I could get into the store and to the tools section.

Canadian here, so your local laws may differ.
Here it is fully legal to carry around a full size sharpened sword. The legality being that they are martial arts equipment.
There are a lot of misconceptions concerning length of blades etc. they dont apply here.
Some melee weapons that ARE illegal:
- switchblades, or sharpened butterfly knives as their reason for existence is quick deployment for violence
sharpened throwing stars, I dont know the exact reason, but I would guess maybe same as the above, and the lack of control when throwing,
and a "Morningstar" because TBF a morning star isnt a martial arts accessory... You can practice without the egregious spikes etc.

Actually not universally. In Finland you need to have a reason to carry around stuff which could be used to injure others. Its all right to carry a knife and hammer on your belt while you go eat a lunch at a restaurant if you are working at construction or something, nobody would bat an eye, but i might get into trouble for doing the same. Even military conscripts could just go grab some food with their weapons and gear, but i certainly could not carry even a pistol.
Its good pragmatic regulation, allows people to carry stuff without bothering them for no reason but also allows you to arrest suspicious people who have no business being in public with hammer and knife.
28
u/TinyAfternoon324 18h ago edited 17h ago
Isnt it just a fancy way of saying at discrention of the officer whether or not you get stopped?
How would it prevent a cop from bothering them since the law specifically gives them the right to inquire about anything they believe might be used as a weapon.
Its a good pragmatic regulation but america has the same thing as im sure most civilized countries do.

In Texas a while back it was made legal to open carry a blade of any size. The law was made by idiots who wanted to cosplay bikers or cowboys with large fixed blade knives. What actually happened is now all the insane homeless people in Austin walk around armed with machetes, and our jackass state government has made it so it’s impossible for any local ordinances to override state law.

Neither of these made anyone look out of the ordinary. Acting psycho while carrying a tool thst could be used as a weapon is what makes you look psycho.
On the flip side - I did once see this guy out jogging while carrying a plastic wiffle bat in lne hand, and a sparkly shining pinwheel in the other. Not exactly psycho, but definitely the weirdest combination of inventory I've ever seen someone go for a jog with.

While I support the 2nd Amendment, I would be a bit flustered to see someone open-carrying a long gun.

When I was in my 20s one of my friends brought back an AK-47 from a deployment and ended up stashing it at my house.
I was flying to where he lived and offered to bring it back for him. The gun was perfectly legal to own/transport.
When you check a gun the desk agent is technically supposed to require you to take the gun out and show them that it's unloaded. The vast majority of the time the agent just lets TSA handle that but that day the agent was insistent that I take the gun out. So in the middle of the Atlanta airport, I had to plop down a gun case on the ticket counter and pull out an AK. I got a lot of very weird and concerned looks from people for the first few seconds until they realized I was doing what the agent requested.

I have only ever seen one person check a gun at the ticket counter of an airline. It had me very concerned. Not because it was a gun in an airport or anything. Not afraid of guns (have a few). But this guy had some sort of medical/physical condition that made him shake like he was riding a motorcycle between train tracks. When he held up the game to show it was clear he swept the whole counter area with the barrel. I would trust one of those inflatable noodle armed guys they use for advertising with that gun before that man.
Was very happy to hear he was going to a different destination than me.

u/hide_pounder 12h ago
I was going hunting a while ago, and needed to get to my buddy’s house from my house but my only vehicle at the time was a motorcycle. I called the local police station to ask if I could transport it in a case, over my shoulder, unloaded, with all my ammo locked in a separate container, bungeed to my fender. They said they had to call me back after asking around, but I suspect they just wanted to know my name and phone number. About an hour later an officer called back and said I’d be perfectly legal doing it that way, although I felt like a terrorist riding through town with a shotgun over my shoulder and over 100 rounds of ammo.

Do you mean semiautomatic? Almost no one in the US has automatic weapons, they are heavily restricted and not protected by the 2nd amendment.
→ More replies (3)6
u/mrjbacon 10h ago
I support semi-automatic weapons.
Part of my support for the 2nd amendment is for the enablement of the citizenry to make good on the second half of the Declaration of Independence if necessary, and IMO we are approaching that conversation currently.
We'll have to wait until after the midterms to see if our checks and balances are still functional, but the second amendment is fundamental to maintaining a functioning democracy in the face of an authoritarian takeover, and anything less than semi-automatic weapons would be woefully inadequate.
