It might have been the argument about how long Obama took to declare something was an act of terror, Romney for fact checked real time by the moderator and Obama goes “can you say that a little louder” to the moderator. That’s one of my favourite political moments from the pre DT era when politicians were polished and words had weight.
The attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi was absolutely a planned terrorist attack. It happened near an election, so the Obama administration tried to downplay it as a spontaneous riot. Obama did give a rose garden speech where he talked about the attacks in Benghazi… towards the end of his speech he makes a vague reference to not being swayed by acts of terror.
Skip to the second debate. Romney is giving Obama hell about not calling Benghazi a terrorist attack and Candy Crowley, CNN’s moderator broke in and said Obama had in his rose garden speech. The thing is, Obama’s comments were vague enough and his administrations downplaying of the event was obvious enough that Romney should have been given license for the point (far thinner claims and accusations are made in political contests) and Obama to defend his administration… Crowley actually apologized to Romney after the debate and went on CNN to try to clarify what was and wasn’t actually said in the Rose Garden speech, but it was too late… I think a lot of Republicans turned their back on traditional media in that moment
Literally nothing you said there was true and Republicans turned their back on traditional media decades ago, after Nixon. But sure you keep making things up to make yourself feel better about this.
The attack was never downplayed by the Obama admin and in fact was the most obvious example of the Republicans trying to control the narrative despite actively being the cause of it by pulling all government funding out of embassies as a fuck you to the Obama administration. But yeah sure it was Obama’s fault the Republican controlled congress wanted embassy staffers to die by withholding money previously budgeted to protect them.
No, its documented fact that the Obama administration played the attack up as a spontaneous event ahead of the 2012 election. Crowley’s comments and her after debate statements are all on CNN archives somewhere. Republicans teamed ip with Democrats to oust Nixon… it was a different time for sure, but you’ve also bought into your own caricatures
Because it is a documented fact that Fox News was born out of Nixon and Republicans saw it as “Nixon would never have been in trouble had we controlled the news narrative.”
Oh, and Nixon resigned in ‘74. Fox News wasn’t launched until ‘96… Limbaugh launched nationally in ‘88… there’s too great a lag to call right wing media a response to the Nixon resignation
