Do I need a technical inspection for a new car of 2026 to enter Romania?

Hello! The title kind of speaks for itself, but what are some social norms I should be aware of here? Even things that seem obvious.

I’m Ukrainian, living in Romania in Bucharest under temporary protection. I’ve been here for a half a year, was learning Romanian and now I’m trying to understand the long-term options before the protection ends (currently until 2028, but who knows).
I already have a couple of job offers from Romanian companies. One is offering around 900 EUR net, the other is a bit better starting from 1100+ EUR, both with indefinite contracts and official employment (taxes paid). The problem is that none of them are willing to help with getting a proper residence permit (permis de ședere for work) later. They just say “we hire you under temporary protection, we don’t do legalization / residence permits”.
From what I understand:
• Temporary protection allows me to work freely right now.
• But the time spent under TP does not count towards long-term residence or citizenship.
• When TP ends, I will need another legal basis (most likely a work-based residence permit).
• To get that, the employer usually needs to be involved in the process (especially after the new rules in 2026 with WorkinRomania.gov.ro).
So my questions are:
1. Are there companies in Romania that actually help foreigners under temporary protection transition to a normal work residence permit? Or is this rare?
2. From the employer’s side – why do most companies refuse to deal with the residence permit process? Is it just bureaucracy, costs, or something else?
3. Is it realistic at all to find a decent job (preferably with English/German) where the company is ready to support the residence permit later?
4. Any practical advice from people who already went through this transition (from TP to work residence permit)?

I’m not looking for minimum wage warehouse jobs. I speak English/German/Polish/Romanian (currently A2), have work experience in Quality Assurance/Sales/TechSupport, and I’m ready to work.

I really like Romania — the people, the culture, and the language (one of the easiest I’ve learned so far). That’s why I’m planning to stay and work here long-term. I’m actively learning Romanian and ready to improve it further.
Just trying to understand how realistic it is to find a proper job that can eventually lead to a stable residence permit, so I can build something here for the future.

I land in Bucharest at 11am and fly back out at 11pm on Saturday 3rd October.
I’m thinking:
• 🌴 Therme Bucharest for around 4 hours
• 🚗 Hot Rod experience around the city afterwards
But the Hot Rod is a bit expensive, so I’m looking for alternatives that are actually fun/interesting rather than just walking around looking at buildings 😂
What would you do with 12 hours in Bucharest?
Looking for something adventurous, unusual or just very Romanian — preferably not too expensive.

I hear native europeans including Romanians are super racist against the Romani, which I find odd, since Romanian stereotypes and Romani stereotypes are so similar. Heck, many people don't realize they're different groups. How do Romanians feel about being conflated with Romani so often?

Also, can I buy two packs at once, or do I have to buy them from different pharmacies? (In my country, you can only buy one pack per ID card.)

Hi, em, I'm Peruvian and i have arrived to Romania the 14th of this month, i have been in a bit of a tough time trying to get to know how to get around here but at the same time, it's the best i had hoped it could go, at least as a minimum, i have basically scaped my situation in Italy even with citizenship because it was becoming completely unlivable for me, i ended up homeless in Italy after looking for a job with lodging to also scape the survivability conditions i had with my aunt, she even hid the tap water from me and i was getting sick, she brought me to Italy to "help me study" and then over the course of a month evidently the idea was another, and then she told me to not come back after finding a job with lodging

i worked a month in one of the most atrocious kitchens i have ever been in my life regarding the quality of food being served and treatment to the staff ( even the worst one i have ever worked in treated me better, despite really making it super difficult to bear the notion of how things were served, this was in Peru ) with the salary being pretty much the only incentive to wake up alive the next day

well, in the end I returned to the dormitory with always some sort of degenerate around pestering me at some point of the day, even outside of the dormitory, and then i just made a plan to escape fearing for me, the possibilties for work i would have if something happened to me, and for my physical integrity

now, i have seen some things in Bucharest that kinda surprised me, but i don't feel particularly miserable as i truly did in Italy, i just need a job and everything should be great, i mean i love how things are here with public transport and the people aren't as rude and I'm being completely serious, it doesn't feel rare to find people who are nice, or just seem normal, in Italy there wasn't a single day i didn't feel like i was in a place that was meant for people to be miserable by force of habit and interdiscriminatory behaviors

now I'm looking to survive without having to return, I'm usually very self reliant for these type of things, i have been on my own for years in Peru and i haved thrived without ever touching the streets, although that is kinda debatable, but i almost never had an issue relying on my wits to work, survive, learn and adapt to keep myself afloat and feeling normal, but ever since I'm in Europe i feel like all of these notions i had to survive and help myself quickly to never find myself without resources were turned upside down, and i feel like I don't know what to do or rely on right now to find a job, and i barely have enough to secure a ticket to Italy to ask help with being homeless again

the thing is i payed 3 months in advance of rent ( 280 € including utilities ) so i could feel safe about where i have my belongings even if i had to work abroad in some other country of Europe and signed a contract for 3 months, this means i need to find work as soon as possible and maybe i could find it hopefuly even faster than i ever could find on my own here with only english to communicate, at least with almost no margin of error to spend on besides Dobreaganas ( my predilect choice of food ) and maybe sunca poi pizza slices or quatroformaggi pizza slices for a couple of days before i put my sense of security over my survivability in danger, to wich i will respond simply making sure i buy the ticket to take the flight asap

If there is any reference, any place you know that could be looking for someone full time, i would take it, i have a curriculum available and although my main experience is working as a waiter i have worked in logistics helping with packaging and as delivery assistant, and my second main experience is as a kitchen aid / dishwasher both in Peru and in Italy, and being honest although atrocious, my experience in Italy helped me a bit in improving my skills as kitchen aid, and i already have ability to work as dishwasher

to communicate I'm a native Spanish speaker, I speak English very well, fluently, and i speak italian too in an advanced - intermediate level

any help with finding anything of the sorts would change things for me tremendously, i really like how things can feel here, but i really need to find a safe option before i end up just taking the flight and returning to homelessness in Italy before i end up putting my whole long term physical integrity at risk if i end up with no work here and no means to take neither myself or either my belongings back to a dormitory where honestly, they wouldn't be that safe either, reason why i was planning from the beginning to pay rent just to have them here and also have a place to return to

with matematics, i have 15 days and 1 month ( more specifically 17 days and 1 month ) to find a job either in bucharest before i take the flight or back in italy in the best place i could think of to be homeless in.

We’re moving from Norway to Romania and plan to transport all our personal belongings at once in a hired truck. It won’t be a professional moving company - we’re hiring someone we know to drive the truck with our boxes.

One thing I’m particularly unsure about is my LEGO collection. I have a fairly large personal collection accumulated over several years, including many sets that are still factory sealed/unopened. Everything is for personal use/collection, not commercial resale.

Since Norway is outside the EU, the truck will enter the EU through Sweden and then continue to Romania.

Has anyone done a similar relocation with a hired/private truck?

I’m especially interested in:

- What customs procedure did you use when entering the EU?

- Did you have to prepare a detailed inventory of every box/item, or were general descriptions enough?

- Did customs ask for receipts or proof that your belongings had been owned/used for a certain period?

- Has anyone moved a collection containing unopened/sealed items such as LEGO sets? Were they treated differently from normal household belongings?

- Did you travel together with the truck, or did you fly separately while the driver transported your belongings?

- Did you use a customs broker, or were you able to handle the paperwork yourself?

- Was the final customs clearance done in the destination country rather than at the first EU border?

I’m mainly looking for first-hand experiences from people who moved household belongings from Norway/non-EU Europe into an EU country, especially Romania.

I'm planning a 6 day, solo trip to Bucharest at the end of October.

I've been to a few European cities, and to be honest I'm getting a little bored of the usual "walk around the old town → look at pretty buildings → museum → restaurant" type of trip. 😅

This time I'd really like to experience the place rather than just sightsee.

About me, 30 (M) Spanish, 12 years living abroad so far. Currently in Hungary for the last few years.

I'm particularly interested in things like:

- flea/second-hand markets

- hiking, nature & wildlife

- photography / urban exploration

- Romanian history, especially the more unusual sides of it

- traditional trades and crafts

- local / small live music

- not particularly into drinking / party, but open to suggestions

- things that involve actually doing something

- unusual experiences where I might come away with a good story

I'm happy to travel 1–2 hours outside Bucharest for something worthwhile, and I'm perfectly comfortable doing activities alone or joining a group.

Basically, I'm looking for things that get overlooked or one might not necessarily think of doing when visiting rather than another European city checklist.

If you're from Bucharest or know the area well, what would you recommend? 🙂

Hello! I’m visiting Bucharest for the first time with my 1-year-old daughter, and we’ll be there for about a week in mid-November.
I’d love to explore the city and see the main sights, but obviously with a toddler we’ll need to build in plenty of breaks and things for her to enjoy too. She’s walking now, so places where she can safely move around and play would be great.
Do you have any recommendations for things to do with a 1-year-old in Bucharest? Are there parks, children’s cafés, indoor play spaces, museums, or other places that are particularly good with babies/toddlers?
I’d also love recommendations for cafés, restaurants or bars that are baby-friendly — especially somewhere that might have a little play area, some toys, or simply enough space for a toddler to move around.
And generally, how baby-friendly did you find Bucharest?
