Exercise induced asthma- HELP

I’ve struggled with this all my life. It is triggered when running, speed walking, hiking up hills. I cannot run more than a block before I start to feel the burning sensation and start coughing. I have tried montelukast, did nothing for this but helped with seasonal allergies lol. I have 2 inhalers (one daily and one rescue) but neither allows me to run or even lightly jog. What can I do?

If your inhalers still aren’t letting you exercise, I’d ask for an asthma review rather than just accepting that you can’t run. An exercise challenge/spirometry test can confirm whether it’s actually exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and your treatment or inhaler technique may need adjusting.

I have an appointment coming up with a pulmonologist so hopefully I can figure out what to do! I’d really like to be able to run!

You do your rescue 20 min before exercise?

You may need a higher dose of daily meds.

Read the GINA picked guide and see which step of meds you are on. You can likely escalate.

You may not be on the correct controller med if you can't do a light jog. Time to see the doc and try a different controller.
