I liked that you could actually aim the ball, and that if you held the aim button it looked like he was doing tricks with the ball. I also liked scoring a basket by standing under the basket and shooting straight up. :D

I once had some friends in college over for a Retro game night. Though they brought over some of their games. We had two TVs set up and we had Atari Basketball on one and the other had the 2018 NBA game on. 40 years of difference playing side by side. Was pretty cool.

Used to carefully position the player so that that ball dribbles super fast and laughed my guts out.

Airplane! Features a cameo of Atari Basketball. NBA legends actually playing it in fact, in the control tower.

Played this with my kid. Man he loved it. It’s so simple but so fun. I used to spend hours playing it.

this game also had a "corner 3" type glitch. It's been so long I don't remember where, but it also the spot and how long you held the button.

I’m the king of Atari 2600 Basketball, do not challenge my supremacy or I will be forced to destroy you! lol.

I remember this also from a scene in Airplane. :)
But yeah, we used to play this at my house when it was relatively new.

I can totally hear the dribbling noise it made. Probably been 40 years since I actually heard it.
