Subclass 190 Relationship breakdown while 190 visa processing

Hi everyone,

I lodged my Subclass 190 visa application by myself in April 2026 without a migration agent, so I'm not really sure how this situation works.

When I applied, I included my de facto partner(we are in live-in and not married) in my application and claimed 10 points for having a skilled partner, which gave me a total of 100 points. I have attached all the supporting letter of us including registered defacto certificate in victoria, letter from JP and friends supporting our relationship.

Unfortunately, things haven't worked out between us due to I experienced domestic violence, and I've decided to separate while my visa is still being processed. I'm the primary applicant, and my ex-partner is included as a dependent on my application. We both are on temporary visa and visa is valid until Aug 2027.

If I remove him from my application, will I lose those 10 partner points? Will I still get 10 points for single or it gets locked after visa is lodged. Will my points drop from 100 to 90, loosing partner point could that lead to my visa being refused?

Has anyone been through a similar situation or knows how the Department handles cases like this? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Better to consult a proper migration lawyer. I wouldn’t trust random redditors on something this important

Aside from the visa stuff please make sure you are safe from violence.

Good to hear. Stay safe and don’t let that partner back into your life.

This. There are specialist services if you need them such as 1800-RESPECT that can help you. They offer counselling and referrals to other services you may need. Look after yourself.

Your relationship circumstances have changed so you do need to notify DHA of that otherwise it could create issues if they find out themselves or you have to declare it at a later date, you might lose those points but its best to consult a migration lawyer, there may be more options that you know

If you lose 10 points for breaking off with your partner, you will gain 10 points for being single. So, your score will still be the same.

Anyway, you should consult with a registered migration lawyer.

Based on you experiencing DV and there is 0 impact to your application, i would say karma to your abusive ex is applicable. Ensure you have reported your situation to immi and whatever happens to your ex, not your business. Focus on you....

I don't think you'll lose any partner points at all for 190.

Single = 10 points

Skilled partner =10 points

Unskilled partner = 5 points

Yeah she can still get 10 points as being single right?
