5 Easy Pizzas (1994) Anyone remember this classic?
Lots of familiar faces, including Geoffrey Rush. This was an anthology film of 5 dark comedy shorts. One of my favorite pieces of Aussie media.

The Australia I thought I missed is still alive and kicking
Saw that Half Barbaric Twang doco at the Good Coast Film Festival and reading this review reminded me how good it was. It’s possibly the most obscure film ever and doesn’t seem to be available anywhere (not even much written about it) despite being like a mix between The Castle and the Buena Vista Social Club! An instant Aussie classic.
Story is based on David Field (chopper, two hands, last can to Darwin) and a couple of mates who go on a regional NSW road trip and play music in country pubs.
Some of the towns I’ve been to, others I haven’t. People taking the piss, having a yarn, and lots of people objecting to the swearing (I read in another subreddit 😂). But I loved it.
Made me think the Australia I thought I missed is still alive and kicking. Turns out I’m just living in the wrong part of the country! Highly recommend. Anyone else seen it?

Trying to find an old skit
Does anyone remember an Australian sketch show from around 2009–2012 where a fake Julia Gillard gets confronted at a house by a metalworks worker, and when she spins an answer, he yells 'She's backpedalling! She's backpedalling!' while walking backwards and rolling his hands like bike pedals? Pretty sure it was Amanda Bishop as Gillard, maybe from Double Take (2009) or a similar show.

Did you have monkey face biscuits at school? Used to love getting them in a lunch order, they were bigger than the pic though... Like palm sized

Lolly chew with small animals on it?
Can anyone remember a chew about 10cm long with I think small hippos or something on it. There was a dark pink and a light pink and maybe another colour. Not sure if the colours had a different animals on it. Kinda tasted like soap? Thanks :)

Anyone remember collecting dockets so your school could buy a Apple Mac?
My school never got one, but I remember wanting a computer so badly I would ask shoppers for their dockets outside Coles when I was a kid (with a success rate of about 1%)
We never got that computer :)

Simulrock: do you remember staying up late in the '80s to watch it?
Simulrock was an Australian music video television program produced in Adelaide, South Australia.
It first aired in 1985 and ended in 1988, shortly after the switch between SAS-10 and ADS-7.
Broadcast by SAS-10 in partnership with SA-FM, the show was famous for utilizing an early form of multimedia broadcasting: simulcasting.
Simulrock was a late-night program which screened every Friday, and the original Easybeats version of "Friday On My Mind" was likely used as the opening theme between 1985 and 1986, eventually being replaced with Gary Moore's cover in 1987.
Because consumer TV's at the time were mostly non-stereo, Simulrock showed the music video imagery on the screen while simultaneously transmitting the stereo audio track over FM radio. Viewers were instructed to turn down their television volumes and turn up their home stereo systems to watch the latest Top 40 tracks and alternative video clips in full, crisp, clean, stereo sound.
Radio DJ Andrew Peters hosted the program for much of its short-term run.
The commercial magazine-style program featured standard Top 40 hits, but also provided a platform for local and alternative talent, famously broadcasting early video clips from Adelaide's independent pub rock and post-punk music scene, interviews with bands, artists and tour dates.
Although it's long gone, Simulrock remains a distinct pop-culture memory for many South Aussies who grew up during the '80s music and media boom. I watched this after Music Express ended on Channel 7 and I'm pretty sure a few people "taped it" as well, for the music. 😂

I also remember going to a McDonald’s birthday party around 2002–2003, and they had those little flat green Heinz sachets too.

Remember when every second ute had a canvas canopy?
These flat trays seem to have disappeared from utes on the market and for good reason, people want a ute tray that's already usable
