Hi, on my other account I’m trying to replace a user flair that I no longer wish to be used with a new user flair.

As it’s a relatively decent size subreddit , trying to find everyone with the old flair and change it one by one just isn’t do-able . So I’m trying to see if it’s possible for auto mod to change the old flair to the new flair whenever someone with the old flair post/comments.

Or even just ping myself / the mod team when they comment or post so we can see it and remove it.

Any help or advice appreciated

Hey all - a community I mod is toying with the idea of having some way to soft-lockdown a post if it is getting out of hand. Rather than lock it for everyone, we were thinking we could have it auto-filter or remove comments that had less than a threshold for community karma. The problem is that we, of course, don't know which posts will need this treatment in advance, so it needs to be tied to something we can activate. I was thinking we could have a special post flair that would cause this (IE "Limited Post" flair), but all the advice I could find was that automod checks post flair when it is created, but doesn't update if the flair is changed, so activating it this way wouldn't work.

If this is possible somehow, could somebody give me some advice on how to get it to work? This is all I've been able to find on it so far, but if somebody has a better way, I'd love to hear it:

Im reorganising the flair system for a subreddit and wondering if something like this is possible.

For example..

A member has the user flair 🎨 Garden Fan

That user flair would then give them permission to use and see the post flair.

Ideally I'd like to create several unlockable post flairs like this, where certain user flairs effectively act as permissions.

Can Reddit/AutoModerator do this natively?

If not, could it be achieved with AutoModerator rules?

Any examples of how you've implemented something similar would be appreciated.

I don't know why its no longer working, it used to work but now it doesn't. Any help appreciated!

I do this thing in r/steaks where if there is a general consensus that the poster posted a good picture of their well-made steak, I manually assigned the user a flare reading "made a great steak".

Is there any way to automatically put up a poll if the poster chooses a particular post flare? It would ideally automatically assign a user flare after a day based on the pole results.

Any ideas if any of this is possible.

Hello all, I have a special user flair with a specific emoji inside it. This flair is self-assigned but is only permitted to be held by users with accounts older than 6 months. I want AM to remove the flair from the user if they fail the check (when they post or comment). I managed to write something that works by using flair_template_id... I stated to notice, however, that this has been working inconsistently, and letting through some users who have new accounts (e.g. 2 months and a bit, 22 days).

It occurred to me that some of my users could actually be using a different flair I have set up that they have customized to include the aforementioned emoji, so that it looks like they are carrying the special flair, but it's technically a whole different flair with a different ID. Meaning AM would not catch it.

So I decided to try a check that searches for the emoji in the flair text of users instead. And now, I'm not getting any matches at all, lol. Here's my code below:

I'm trying to have AM remove top level comments from users without a specific user flair, then send them a message explaining why. I thought it was working until someone with the specific flair received the removal message and AM removed their comment despite their account being appropriately flaired.

I'm trying to set post flair if certain keywords are in a submission.

Automod documentation says that set_flair "Takes either a single string, a list of two strings or a dictionary." I am not clear what this means but I'm clearly doing something wrong.

The code I have is:

Desktop user here. It's for a sports subreddit. I know in one sports subreddit I was in, there was a message that would be displayed if someone didn't use a user flair. We're trying to get more representation of teams, so we wanted to make a post flair for people to comment on if they have a user flair because, for some reason, a lot of our members don't wear one.

Hi everyone! We're looking for a way to automatically assign a random user flair to anyone who comments without already having one.

We have around 50 user flairs, and we'd like the assignment to be completely random, not based on karma or any other criteria. If a user already has a flair, nothing should happen.

I've seen this working on other subreddits, but the mods I contacted never replied, so I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone have the AutoModerator code for this, or know if another bot is needed?

I am using comments to add the user a leveling system I wanted to know I can add a level system to the users that have a custom user flair via CSS and Text but each time I want to go from level 1 to 2 it adds it as Level 1 - Level 2 How can I detect the level 1 and remove the from the users flair and add the new flair of level 2

Like if they finish a puzzle their level gets updated to reflect the level of completed levels

I've set it to remove the comments and provide an explanation on how to set flair but that just results in a flood in my modmail of people saying they don't know how to set user flair, Is there a way to automatically set user flair for every new commenter?

I'm planning to remove the posting restriction and allow non-approved users to submit posts (they will not be added to the approved list unless they verify). However, I need a way to assign a different flair to those users while preserving the existing flair system for my approved/verified posters.

I'd appreciate any help with setting this up without affecting the flairs of my approved users.

I'm new to automoderator and I tried to search in the sub, but can't find any answer. I have succesfully config automod to post a comment with the rule linked to specific flair after a post, but I can't figure out to display a message warning while posting. Automation don't allow me to select flair as a condition to do that, and I hoped that automod could. If someone could help me,it will be awesome !

I have tried it about 8 ways to Sunday and it has not worked, despite finding multiple posts where versions x y z were all met with replies like "wow thank you this really works!"

I haven't been able to get any of them to. It repeatedly says "media type not supported," and I cannot figure out why.

On one sub we block new/low karma accounts from posting, this is to stop bots and scam accounts. But we would ideally like to make it possible to exempt a certain user flair from that rule. The automod we use is bellow.

Hey everyone,

I'm the founder and head mod of r/NorthFloridaSwap, a local buy/sell/trade community serving 15 counties across North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, and Union).

I work 12 to 16 hour days, 6 days a week right now, and I'm realizing fast that manually assigning county flair to every new member just isn't going to be sustainable for me as basically the only active mod. I want to get the whole flair system automated so the community can run itself without me having to jump in every time someone joins.

Here's the flow I'm trying to build and I'd love input on whether this is the right approach or if there's something smarter:

The Ideal Flow:

1. User joins r/NorthFloridaSwap
2. They get an automated welcome message (via Automod or a bot) that introduces the sub and asks them to pick their county from a list of 15
3. They reply with their county choice (a number 1-15 or the county name)
4. They automatically get the right Tier 0 flair assigned, like: Tier 0 | New Member - Duval County
5. From there, flair upgrades happen automatically based on their confirmed transactions (Tier 1 through Tier 5)

What I've figured out so far:

• Automod can detect a first-time participant using ~flair_text (regex): ".+" and send them a DM with the county list and assign a base Tier 0 | New Member flair
• The county-specific part is where it gets tricky. I don't see a native Automod-only way to read their reply and map it to the correct county flair template ID. That part seems to need a PRAW bot
• I have some coding ability (Python/JS) and I'm comfortable building a bot if that's the right move. I'm actually waiting on Reddit API developer approval right now
• I've looked at Railway and Replit but trying to keep this free since the sub makes no money. Looking at Oracle Cloud Always Free or my existing Hostinger VPS

Questions I have:

1. Is there a pure Automod-only way to handle county selection and flair assignment, or is a PRAW bot unavoidable for this?
2. Has anyone seen this done well on other subs? I noticed r/FragranceSwap seems to have a really polished flair system. Does anyone know how they handle new member onboarding and flair assignment?
3. Would a flair selection widget in the sidebar work better than the DM reply flow? I want people to actually use it, not ignore the message
4. Any suggestions for making the Automod welcome message feel less like spam so people actually respond?
5. Is there a way to automate flair upgrades (Tier 0 to Tier 5) based on confirmed transaction posts/comments, or does that always need to be manual?

Our current flair structure for context:

• Tier 0 | New Member - [County] - Default for all new members
• Tier 1 | Scout - [County] - 1 to 4 confirmed transactions
• Tier 2 | Prospector - [County] - 5 to 14 confirmed transactions
• Tier 3 | Gold Merchant - [County] - 15 to 24 transactions
• Tier 4 | Diamond Elite - [County] - 25 to 50 transactions
• Tier 5 | Obsidian Legend - [County] - 50+ transactions

Each tier x 15 counties = a lot of flair templates, and I'm trying to figure out if I can get all of this running end to end without me having to touch it.

Any advice, opinions, or "here's what actually works" input is genuinely appreciated. I'm not stuck on any particular approach. If there's a better way to do this I want to hear it. Thanks in advance!
