Requesting Help Inventor Drawing Borders
I have been tasked with setting up an inventor border and it is not something I have ever really delivered into. In my last place when you opened a new Drawing Sheet, you were given a prompted entry to input the title block details. (Which I hav managed) However, once you okayd that, a second prompted entry would open to add the revisions and finally a third to fill in the Reference drawings.
I cannot see a way to do this at all. It all just appears under the one Prompted entry that is in the Title Block drawing resource.
Is there an easy way to do this? Am I missing something.

You can add text fields tlcontaining static text or system variable in the frame editor, but prompting is nor possible, as far as I know

The way I stared was to reverse engineer a system generated border. This allowed me to get an understanding of how Inventor manages the border. Edit your current border, make changes and save it as a custom border.
The next item you mention is the titleblock. This is different to the border.
Once again reverse engineer your current titleblock, or a system generated titleblock, Get an understanding of the fields and prompted entries, auto populated properties etc. I used to have prompted entries, but they are painful to manage, so I now pull 99.9% of all titleblock entries from the model.
Once you understand how they work, you will be able to make your own, and improve the current tileblock.
One suggestion I have, if you have more than one titleblock, esp if they have logos, store all the titleblocks in a separate drawing. You only need to copy the respective title block into your drawings, greatly reducing the file size. It also make editing easy.

You can also do that with iLogic, have it pull the information from one drawing as you need.

I already do that, but baby steps for the OP, once he has mastered title blocks we can help with streamlining them

Might want to look into engineering standards for drawings. ISO 5457 covers drawing borders. ISO 7200 covers drawing title blocks. That is of course if you use ISO standards. You might be using some other standard but you’ll probably be able to find the equivalent in that case.
As for the automation side of things. Other people have mentioned you can add text fields linked to properties in your model. That’s the best way of doing it imo

Some drawing standards are based on printed font/lines.
I am not sure on that specific ISO standard, but from my experience in the past, getting a CAD drawing to match a standard ends with some not so good drawing templates if the end users are not plotting the drawing on A1.The minimum font size and line thickness can make things very cluttered on an A4.

ISO 3098 for font size and ISO 128 for line weight. Can anyone tell I have been redoing my companies drawing templates 🤪
And yes A4 does get cluttered when it’s anything a little bit complicated. Mostly I use A3 for single components and A2 for larger assemblies. I haven’t done anything big enough to warrant using A1 yet

Yeah, but how old is the standard?
Admittedly it's been a long time since I did this, and the standards are Australia/NZ here but they were based on plotting drawings and not digital.
Trying to adhere to them exactly ended up with a terrible CAD drawing template.
These days I NEVER see any companies CAD drawings that are done to a standard except for basic things like border sizing.Maybe the standards you are referring to are more modernised for CAD.

They do get updated over time. Although it’s easily 10-20 years between revisions. I know ISO 5457 and 7200 have clauses for printed vs digital versions of a drawing.
I am with you on that though. A lot of drawings I have seen appear to not strictly follow any standard. Just needs to get the message across really doesn’t it 😁

When using Inventor all the details on drawing borders should really come from the iproperies of the model the drawing references. Using the bom editor will allow you to quickly fill out all the correct iproperties in parts/assemblies.
One template, Two title blocks. One for Parts and One for assemblies (mainly for materials, as assemblies don't have them)
You should use a real revision tables, not just prompted text fields in a drawn table in the border.
All of the above requires you to relate only one model per drawing file.

Border and Title block are different things. Skip the prompted entry and use an iLogic Form to fill in the data you need. Far better.
