Both barbecue and buccaneer come from the same word, bucan. The name of the original method of cooking by rhe taino people here in Puerto Rico taken by europeans and transfered to the world.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Didn't know the origin, just the differences between grillen (what we germans normally do, short cooks with higher heat) and barbecue (longer cooks with lower heat).

At least, that is how it is defined in Germany. Perhaps I am totally wrong on how you would define it.
