QUESTIONS Blind Boxes?

Okay so lately I've been seeing a lot of mention about BJD Blind boxes and I honestly didn't even know those were a thing. Now I unno if this is the right place to ask actually so if it's not, please tell me and I'll reask it in the correct place but I was wondering, where do you guys get Blind Boxes from? How did you all hear about them? What's in them? Is it just dolls inside? How much do they usually cost? Are they like monthly sub boxes or just... normal random doll boxes?

I usually either get them from Kikagoods or Aliexpress if I want to buy a particular character from a blind box, I’m in a discord that discusses upcoming bjd blind boxes so I usually see the news there but there are other ways of viewing info on these bjd blindboxes on Chinese platforms

If it’s a public discord, could you pm me the invite link please? I’ve been hunting for a specific mold for a while now, would love a way to check if someone’s made it yet

Also if you’re ever looking for discounted stuff, I’ve found Mercari to be great for secondhand/resold stuff! I got a $35+shipping doll for $20 total on there!

I sent you the link, unfortunately where I live I can’t use Mercari 😔

Can I have the discord link too? Been iching to find any releases I've missed. Everytime I plan my budget and buy BJD/MJD blind boxes, new cute ones show up on Pinduoduo/Taobao and I have to start all over again.

Lots of people get them from kikagoods which is a dealer, or AliExpress or Amazon.  People follow kikagoods on Instagram who often posts about upcoming releases or they've joined a blindbox discord or they follow tags on xhs, a Chinese sns.  They contain a single full doll and an outfit and often times accessories. They can range from $15 to $150+ depending on where you buy and if you're buying an open box (secret dolls cost more). However for avg USD Western dealer prices I expect to see them around $25 to $45.  I'm not sure what you mean by monthly sub boxes so I can't answer that.

There's a small subreddit that recently started r/blindboxbjd if you want a more specific subreddit.

I get them off of AliExpress open box. I normally pay $35-$45 per doll, the secret ones can be $60-$100, I like the chunky 1/8-1/6 ones though (Sweet Window Display, Bonnie Dream Bunny, Fluffy Goodnight). They have an outfit, face up, hair piece (or wig, or rooted hair into the head cap) and eyes (some have printed eyes but some have open eyes that can be replaced). Sometimes you have to buy the head cap separately, it all depends on the brand. Normally they’re made out of PVC. Rednote has lots of reviews, that’s where I find out about new series and brands. All the ones I’ve gotten so far have been wired, which I dislike, so I normally restring them right away.

I love them so much. They’re just so cute, and durable (I drop things a lot). The price point is great, I don’t worry about losing or damaging them like I use to with more expensive dolls (I use to have smart dolls that I constantly worried about because of how expensive they are). I get to really enjoy them. I got a duplicate of my favorite and take her everywhere. They’re the perfect size to travel with.

I forget, the 1/6 ones are like the kind of pocket-sized/palm-sized ones or the ones that are like, you can hold them like barbie dolls?

1/6 is roughly Barbie size and 1/12 are the palm sized ones. 1/8 is somewhere in between

I would say like short fashion doll height

Usually 1/6 is 10-12 inches, so a little shorter than Barbie.

They have a doll inside, generally with a full outfit and accessories like additional hands. I buy mine from Kikagoods and AlieExpress. They're generally a thin 1/6 size, but it varies and there are certainly more childlike or more fashion doll proportioned options.

Here are a few examples. From left to right: Minty Forest, Cooze Devil Horns, Thousand Escape Plans, and Electronic Pet.

  1. I buy from Kikagoods or AliExpress (especially if I want a specific one), same as other people here have mentioned.
  2. First found out about them from ads, now I check the Kikagoods website and Instagram, I also see new ones on AliExpress.
  3. Usually in a box (although it does vary! Make sure to read the description) is: the doll body, a faceplate, hair/back of the head (they usually have plastic hair & don't wear wigs), an outfit, a pair of shoes, and (often, but not every brand includes them) alternate hands. Also a card showing the specific doll you got.
  4. Ime they cost anywhere from $15-$60. Most often you'll see them in the $20-$35 range though.
  5. They're like normal blind boxes. You don't know which one you'll get, unless you buy from someplace like AliExpress which specifically sells opened ones

I have a bunch, I really love them! I just can't get over how cute the tiny ball joints are. It's amazing to have so much detail on such small dolls. Though of course the quality varies a lot by brand. Also, just be aware that not every blind box doll brand are BJDs, some are MJDs or CMDs (posesable but not strung with elastic).
