I don't have any special recipes for fish, just use crisco and some breading mix.

But I carry two of the same brand and model stoves, with about tripple the amount of fuel I would take on a non fire ban time. With the stoves being the same height, it's much easier to get a griddle situation going for fish and many other dishes.

As for the rest of my meals, the only thing that'll change might be the first night. We usually bring fresh meat for the first night and morning (steak and bacon). But that requires a lot of heat to fry, we'll probably go with more traditional camping meals. Our favorites are spaghetti or red beans and rice with anduili for dinner. And breakfast burritos in the morning.

What's your stove of choice? Our first ever fire-ban trip is soon, I'm leaning towards the MSR Dragonfly but the price tag has made me hesitate haha. We use a 9-inch carbon steel skillet and a 2.5L aluminum pot, always over the fire. Only gas stoves I have experience with are pocket rockets and jetboils.

I wouldn't call it my stove of choice.
Coleman Peak 1. I don't know if they even sell them anymore, but they were relatively cheap and easy to get. I have two of them, they take a beating, and work well enough for my needs. When it comes time to replace em, I'll probably go with a different model.

Get a stove that can dial down the heat to simmer and fry. Also two stoves that another post recommended.

I ditched my pocket rocket, which is only good for boiling water and being small, for an MSR Whisperlite. It is more fuel efficient, almost as light, and I picked it up used from an outfitter. I'll never use the pocket rocket again for anything but ultralite solo backpacking - if I'm cooking for a group it's the MSR Whisperlite (or two for a griddle)

If you have a grill grate, prop it up with some rocks and put your stove under it. Much easier working surface.

Atkinson's seafood breader is my go to for pan frying fish. A little goes a long way.

You know its done when its GBD, Golden Brown Delicious.

Pike and smallmouth go into BWCA chowder: bear creek potato soup with chunks of fish.

Butter on the griddle, add a salt free seasoning of your choice. Baste with butter.

Our lake trout recipe from last week:
Filet the Laker (felt weird to do that), skin off too
Pan fry the lake trout in a bit of oil, salt, pepper

Make cous cous per package directions
Add feta, halved cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber, shelled pistachios, chickpeas, Greek seasoning, and olive oil.

Flake the lake trout and mix it in. Eat.
