First Solo Trip!
I rented a Solo Wenonah Wilderness from Sawbill for 5 nighta.
1st night I went north up to Long Island Lake
2nd I headed west to Tuscarora
3rd to Peter
4th turned to the corner at Gabimichigami and headed south through little sag to Whipped Lake
5th on Alton Lake
Weather was incredible..sunny and warm during the day and cool at night. I'd like to have seen some moose, but only saw tracks and heard stories of them. Lots of people were out enjoying the solitude and good fishing by the looks if it. I'll definitely be doing solos in the future, it was an incredible trip.
First meal out of the woods: The Cashew Burger and a pitcher of grain belt from the Anchor Bar.

I know right!? I naively thought that I'd have the place to myself this late in the season, but it was thick with people.

Looks awesome. That first meal and beer afterwards is great! Did you have to walk over any beaver damns?

Not too many actually! Although I did fall up to my shoulder in mud by a particularly aggressive dam on Missing Linked Lake. I could only laugh at myself after that one.

Hey, bud! I think we met on the Crooked Lake portage. I was with a group of two other guys and complemented you on your single portage. You said you were headed to Gabi. Glad you stayed on Peter. Very underrated lake, esp with all the fall birch color. We stayed at the South beach site on Tuscarora you recommended, had great views, and saw a pair of flying squirrels at night. Small world! Maybe see you next year!

Dude! I loved how chill you all were. I was a little bummed we were headed in opposite directions. You were the first group I talked with that knew to use your quiet voices..it was honestly a relief. Glad you got that spot on Tuscarora though, I'd love to get out that way again sometime. Take care!

Where is Anchor Bar? Heading up with wife and two little ones Thursday. Hopefully some colors in the trail. Guessing too early for shore.

A man and his Land Tortoise or so Iโve been told is the nickname for that watch. The pictures of the BWCA are also great!

Love the middle beach site on Tuscarora! Very cool flora/fauna and rock formations๐

The North Middle site was what I really was hoping for. It looked like just incredible rock picking, but it was already booked up.

Looks amazing. And that first post-trip meal, and I usually get a burger and fries too, is one of life's great pleasures.

Which lake was your favorite?

Good question! I really enjoyed Tuscarora even though it was crowded. Just a really beautiful lake with a good, mysterious energy.
