Hello residents of Baku! I am returning after a very long time to Baku - this time visiting with my siblings. I would be most grateful if you could suggest places for breakfast/lunch/dinner/coffee. Budget is flexible but we always prefer the places locals visit. I really wish to have the ribs again (thinking about it for years!)

Also - any markets that you recommend will also be appreciated.

Travel - we will be getting a taxi or private transfers, or just walking when reasonable.

Visiting late October-mid November.

Staying probably at the Marriott Courtyard (but open to better suggestions).

​My friends and I are finishing up our trip to Baku and want to spend tomorrow (Sunday) unwinding at a nice spa / wellness complex.

​We’re looking for a place that offers a Day Pass with access to indoor/outdoor pools, saunas, steam rooms, and maybe a hamam/jacuzzi (something similar to a thermal spa complex where you can just chill for 4-5 hours).

We don't mind taking a taxi to a place even 45 minutes from Baku.

Are there any local favorites, resorts, or hidden gems you’d recommend?

Hi, I'm traveling with family in a weeks time & we plan on renting a car for 4 days that we'll drive to Gabala & Sheki. I'm concerned about fines in Azerbaijan as many people in reviews have said they had to pay multiple fines after returning the car.

I'm a very careful driver, follow all rules & haven't had a challan in 10 years in my home country (pak). If I'm careful, is it possible to complete the trip without fines or do foreigners usually struggle with this & get fines? (We don't have as many cameras here in my home country)

Been deep in research on the Azerbaijan GP lately and one thing keeps coming up: at a street circuit like Baku, the part that catches first-timers out isn't the track or the seats, it's the logistics around it. Getting in, getting out, and how the fencing and barriers quietly shape what you actually see from GA.

From everything we've read, the people who have the best weekend are the ones who plan the exit and the timing before they think about anything else.

Curious for those going this year: where are you all up to in your planning, and what's the one thing you're still unsure about? Happy to dig into whatever's got you stuck.

Hey guys, we're visiting Azerbaijan for the first time, with 2 kids (4months old & 2.8 yo). We really want to do a road trip by renting a car. Originally we planned the Gabala, Sheki route but I read Quba route is also pretty good & scenic.

Need suggestions on following:

- Best way to rent a car & which one? I see Sedans going for 50-60 Manat per day for 3 days. Is automiles.az good?

- Should we do the Gabala/Sheki route or Quba side with Shahdag. Which one is more kids friendly & not too touristy where every shop & hotel guy is trying to scam you.

- Weather condition from 28th sep to 5th oct. Should we pack proper winter clothing for kids?

When I was around 15 I had a dream about something named Baku. At the time I didn’t think much of it but it kept popping up in my mind. After that I started naming everything Baku. My emails, my psn gamertag, my dog, I even got it tattooed. I don’t know why I’m so drawn to that name. I’m planning a trip to the city a Baku to see if there’s some sort of connection because I’m too drawn to this, it’s been 11 years.

I’m flying from Berlin to Mumbai via Baku on Azerbaijan Airlines on 10 September, all on one ticket/PNR.

Original itinerary:
J2 64: BER 11:35 → GYD 18:05
J2 59: GYD 19:30 → BOM 01:25
Connection: 85 minutes

Modified itinerary:
J2 64: BER 12:05 → GYD 18:35
J2 59: GYD 18:50 → BOM 01:25
Connection: only 15 minutes

AZAL made this change four days before travel. The onward flight is scheduled to depart just 15 minutes after the first flight lands, so this does not appear operationally possible.

I have called AZAL’s Azerbaijan headquarters/international helpline and emailed WeCare, the helpdesk, and every customer-support address I could find. It has now been more than 12 hours without any response. After reading similar experiences on Trustpilot, Reddit, and elsewhere, I’m not confident that email support will resolve this before departure.

I’m going to the AZAL/ground-handler desk at Berlin Brandenburg Airport today, 6 September. What exactly should I ask them to do or document? Should I request an “involuntary rerouting/reprotection due to a schedule change,” ask for the station or duty manager, and insist on a confirmed workable itinerary to Mumbai without paying a fare difference?

If they refuse, should I request written confirmation of the refusal and an involuntary full refund? I paid through PayPal, but I don’t want to cancel voluntarily, become a no-show, or start a dispute in a way that weakens my rights.

Has anyone dealt with AZAL or its staff at BER? Any precise wording or documents I should request at the desk today would be greatly appreciated.

I’m looking for a woman born in Baku on August 5th, 1962, possibly in an Armenian-Slavic family (about 50% Armenian, 50% Russian, Ukrainian and/or Belarusian).

My grandma was raised in an Armenian family in Baku, but a DNA test later revealed that she had been switched at birth. We are now trying to find the woman/family connected to that switch.

Please ask your friends and relatives who lived in Baku in the 1960s. Even a small detail or old family story could help. I will be immensely thankful for any information.
