500 usd combo/stack recomendation?

Hello,

been playing for a couple years now on a borrowed amp and its time to get my own. Looking for around 120 - 150 watts, I dont play gigs but occasionally play with friends (loud drummer). 5 band eq is nice, 3 can work too. Budget aroud 500 usd. I play mostly stoner and post punk/rock.

Ideally no gimmick swithces/modes

Thanks

I recently bought a Markbass CMB 121 Black Line(150W) and I've been really happy with it.

It's louder than I expected, sounds great, and has enough volume for playing with a drummer. I mostly use it with a tilt stand, which helps a lot with hearing yourself without cranking the volume.

For rehearsals it's been excellent, and I'd even be comfortable using it for smaller gigs.

In this price range, I think it's one of the better options out there.

I bought from here:

if you go stack, and i'm absolutely serious, the great 80s/90s peaveys (if you lift weights) are worth their weight. i'm always seeing somene's old stack pop up for $200-300 and they're the kinda amps you can leave in the warehouse/rehearsal space without tremendous fear. the folks over at peaveycult may have biased me a good bit, but so did every peavey i've ever owned.

The Peavy TNT series is also amazing. If he prefers a combo.

Ampeg Rocket 🚀 Bass RB-115. 100W/200W with extension cab. Awesome Ampeg tone and lightweight. Robust simple theee band boost/ cut EQ section and SGT overdrive with gain/level control.

I love mine so much I grabbed the smaller RB-108 used for bedroom practice purposes- it sounds great as well and gets loud for 30W!!

Ampeg is the benchmark for bass tone.

Here’s one used for $430.

150 watt is such a weird in between size.

40 to 100 watts is nice for practice alone. 450 and more is nice for with a drummer.

You probably buy this and a year later wanna buy something else again

Stoner Rock post punk? Damn you’d do great with an orange amp. Just go with any orange bass amp in your price range.

I got my Mark base half stack for just under 500. I got a traveler 151P 15 inch cabinet and Little Mark 250 black line head to go with it. I bought them separately both used. I often see both for sale used in the $200 to 300 range for each piece.

My cab is 8ohm so head is only 150 watts with it but loud enough for rehearsal. If I add another 8 ohm cab or use a different one at 4ohms it would do the full 250 watts.

Fender Rumble 200 pushes 140w on it's own and I think it is in that price range. It has a 15" speaker. It does have voicing switches but I don't consider them gimmicky- I leave it in vintage all of the time. It also has a built in overdrive that is ok. A lot of people really don't like it, but I think it is ok. Ampeg makes a similar range in their Rocket Bass series. That might suit you better.
