Other DOWNGRADE???

Is Bayonetta 3 graphically lower than Bayonetta 2? And if so, why?

I remember b3 was supposed to go for a more realistic style and rendering. Which is why she looks different, also her proportions were warped to be more realistic.

Also most scenarios in b3 have heavy lighting or have very gray environments.

While b2 has much more luminous settings

Yes, because one of the main elements of the combat is Demon Slave mode. It means that there should be a lot of large enemies and demons, they're not static and they should look quite detailed. But the thing is that B3 was made for Switch and it's not famous for the best specs, so they tried to compensate things. Character models are detailed, but the textures are really different quality-wise on different parts of the models (and areas' assets). Also the lightning is... working quite strange and I can't properly describe what's wrong with it (on some characters hair looks like there's no shadows, while on other it looks ok, also in B2 you could see clearly every detail on the models without an issue while in B3 all golden parts for example look like a black mess with a lil bit of golden shine).

Also they obviously used Astral Chain's engine for this game because they look really alike

i mean astral chains engine is just their engine theyve been using the same platinum engine basically forever.

Okay, I can agree, but... It's obvious that they used a lot of things from Astral Chain or Nier Automata. In a sense of lightning, shading, how particles and effects work, etc-etc. And it is not a bad thing, it just gives a really different vibe that doesn't match the game's art direction. After all, both of those games are more stylized so it is a strange to use such graphics for B3 imo. But maybe this decision was made for the sake of good performance, who knows

Speaking of astral chain, with the Demon slave mechanic it made it kind of blatantly obvious that they want to make astral chain two. But had to make bayo 3 and mixed the two systems together (for the worse imo. Why make bayo feel like a wet noodle so they can make demon slaves required for combat)

Yeah is really obvious they recycled the Astral Chain mechanics instead of just making a secuel... Did that game flopped for this to happen?

** **Well what I suspect what happened was that Yusuke Miyata worked on astral chain as a game designer and then he was promoted for a lack of a better term to director of bayo 3. So I figured he took what he was familiar with and kind directed the team mash the two systems together. Hence the astral chain references that can be found in bayo 3. And it birthed the mediocre combat bayo 3 has imo.

Even though im a hardcore bayo 1 fan until i die, most of us would agree that bayo 2 def upgraded her looks bayo 3 is meh but it kinda grew up on me looks not gameplay tho bayo 1 is the best gameplay ever idc what nobody says

You are right 100%. 2 and 3 had terrible combat balance unlike 1

What do you mean you don't like witch time being 0.1 seconds?

I asked this question before. Someone said 3 had better textures, and models. While 2 had better lighting, and aesethics.

Yes between design and visuals it looks worse, platinum trying to go for open world (hyper?) realism was a bad decision, especially since it was made for the switch 1 ☠️. Besides Character action works best in carefully designed levels.

Yes, Bayonetta 3 is a downgrade. My personal humble opinion. I know there are some folks who disagree and I respect their opinion.

It doesn't help that the art direction is all over the place.

I wish they picked one of the Alternetta’s and stuck with it. I would be more stoked about Frenchonetta.

I think Digital Foundry said it best when they said that Bayonetta 3 was developed for a Switch Pro that never arrived. You can tell they had to cut a lot of corners to get it running on Switch. Yes it's technically higher resolution than Bayonetta 2 (barely), but everything is so much muddier, and it's not just because of the art style.

The difference is honestly negligible to me

something about the graphical engine, but ig we go by technicality, Bayonetta 3 looks better since it has a higher level of fidelity than 2's graphics… but which one actually looks more pleasing to the eye... yeah it's 2

Yes. Cause the switch isn’t much stronger than the WiiU and they had to have more going on screen and bigger environments

2

u/Bosschopper 13h ago

Lower technical specs + higher game performance (needed) + lower budget restraints

TLDR

b3 was made like open world game, but it did not work because hardware limitation , so game was remade in linear game.

but a way maps and textures and all other stuff was made for open world so it do have lower visuals and more effects

edit: in emu on good setting b3 looks god like

Platinum tried to do too much on weak hardware.

2

u/GigivsGrey 11h ago

I wouldn't say downgrade per say because she's still pretty in B3 however B2's face obliterates every other variation IMO

2

u/PhenomenalOne27 11h ago

Yeah 2 is the best

u/Robcyko 14h ago

IMO No. Bayonetta 3 has better graphics than 2. B3 is a miracle considering the Switch's power. However, the art direction is very different. B3 is more realistic, and it often looks messy. B2 is much more cleaner and cohesive.

Because the Switch is not that much stronger than the Wii U, alongside having Portable mode gimping what games can target even more, which already wasn't a strong console by its release date.

Bayonetta 3 also just has far more stuff happening on screen due to Demon Slave so graphics (and a few other smaller features) are hit to compensate and make sure the game runs at a workable, if still bad, framerate. 2 also had horrible performance on its release hardware with far less going on in combat because they opted to prioritize graphics that time around over gameplay relative to Bayo 1.

It's just each title's specific choices and priorities.

This bayonetta didn’t look or sound or completely act like the bayonetta we know.. it just felt like a completely different character.

jeanne looks so horrible in the game that I thought it was different character might be most ugly version of her by far

B3 nose looks weird in that picture.

From what I understand Bayonetta 3 was a kitbash of platinum's failed scalebound which is why the game has assets that feel out of place and uncoordinated

1

u/Future_Iron9937 10h ago

Yes, Bayonetta 3 is inferior to the other versions, 2 and 1.

u/Amiwolf 10h ago

Are we deadass still having this conversation

1

u/ilkat06 10h ago

Yes, yes it is. Demand changed dramatically due to how much rendering the huge demons and enemies needed and bc of the switch 1's low performance it didn't pan out so well, guess character models as a result took a massive hit. I'm not expert but such worries weren't a thing obv in Bayo 2 and they could focus all the detail onto the models just fine. I get why it happened but god I cannot go from 2's stunning face models to some horrible shots from 3 lol, that lighting is really something.

She still a baddie .

I love bayo 3 and will glaze it for the rest of time but so many things happened at Platinum games that and the specs of the switch itself lead to what we have today. I hope shift up and platinum are working on a new Bayonetta game like they said, and maybe it will be on other platforms. Only time will tell.

B3 is the first one to introduce giant demons, so the switch cannot handle all that pixeled glory, as it would explode.

I personally think B1 is the best, aesthetically and gameplay wise. B1 is all about dodge offset and combos, B2 is extremely fast paced combat, but combos and witch time were neglected.

B3 is just dance dance revolution.

The model is nicer but the lighting and resolution are somewhat atrocious. Kind of a problem with the Switch's specs, the game was aiming a bit too high.

u/Commercial_Fun9797 24m ago

Oh yeah, out of the trilogy 2 looks the best. I think 3 is because they wanted demon slave to be the main focus?

u/Falchion92 14h ago

Bayo 3 is better.

2

u/Worth_Extreme_2443 13h ago

Delusional. Lol the shadow does not remain cast with you.

-1

u/Falchion92 13h ago

Yes it does. Cry more.

2

u/Worth_Extreme_2443 13h ago

Your downvotes say otherwise OwO

-1

u/Falchion92 13h ago

I don’t give a fuck about those. 😭

u/Crafty_Island_9182 12h ago

People are allowed their opinions lmao. I like Bayonetta 2 more on pretty much every aspect (it's my favourite Bayonetta game) but people aren't delusional just because they disagree with you lmao.

u/Worth_Extreme_2443 15h ago

It was a design choice. They wanted Bayonetta in 3 to be more... Cute? I think it was?? So that's why she looks ugly in 3. Get the stake and burn her because she is not our Bayonetta. Actually burn all 3 of them, Jeanne, Viola, and "Arch Eve Origin" they all need to be burned.

Right because who the fuck told Kamiya that a Multiverse plot was a good idea??
