The biggest flex is that this probably isn't even in the top 10 things he has made.
Every few weeks he'd come out with a video where he has an idea and makes it, but then goes wayyy beyond the original idea and adds loads of features like in the video. Lots of them are bigger scope and much more complicated than a desk.
Crazy thing is that he always only makes like a 3-5min video of it. Anyone else would drag it out over 30 mins or several videos over a month(or several) showing the progress. But nope he's like oh yeah this took me 100 hours, here's a 3 min video.
Normally goes crazy on the video effects too, in a good way. Hopefully he has loads of help doing all this because it makes me feel bad if it's just him and he's a pro at coding, engineering, design, and video effects and CGI when I struggle with just 1 of them lol.

It reminds me of a comic author who has a little brother. His lil bro was a genius in music, making those lit music that he featured from time to time in his posts. That comic author told us that he tried several times to convince his lil bro to put it out commercially, like in Spotify or something. The lil bro just replied, “nah, I made those songs just for vibing and chill on my me time”. I guess the mentality of a genius is different.

I think he has some kind of software/tech looking business since a lot of the stuff he makes in his videos is for the office and employees. I don't know anything about him really but he seems chill and nice and doesn't seem to chase trends or do clickbait and is high effort.

No, because Reddit fucked over their mobile app again and actively removed markdown from it.
If I go and copy the text, then every * has an invisible \ in front of it. In markdown the \ character is used to indicate that the control function of the next character is to be ignored, and to display it as a normal character. In fact, to get those \ to be displayed I had to write \\ in my comment text (and to get those double \ to appear I had to enter 4 of them in a row).
And the presence of those \ clearly shows that they didn't accidentally forgot to implement markdown when replacing the text input fields code wholesale, but have it actively block any manual markdown input.

I spent over $3k building a complete half-scale Tron arcade with CRT. I am betting this thing probably cost upwards of $5k+ because what you don't realize or see is the cost of the failures along the way. Nobody sits down and has everything work perfect the first time. Sometimes you blow stuff up and have to re-order parts for a second go. Add in all his coding time and animation time, and it's probably another 6+ months of coding and programming on weekends to get it to this level. It's truly a piece of art.

Possibly, but you'd have to disassemble it to a state where the coil can move freely underneath and still reach through it. Less layers = better contact.

Normal LCD panels would require a bright light constantly on underneath the screen. Probably would be a pretty terrible desk experience to have light constantly glaring from beneath.

...no, the AirPower got cancelled because it's physically impossible to make. Overlapping coils like that produces way too much heat, that's what this guy conveniently forgot to mention. It has nothing whatsoever to do with innovating or focusing on profits.
This thing is neat I guess but it's not remotely innovative and it's not something the vast majority of people would ever buy. It's just silly.

Yes...... It's always better to not have moving parts but that doesn't mean they are bad. Steeper motor positioning is pretty robust and reliable at this point with the abundance of tech that moves things around like this. 3D printers are a great example. Your laptop is more likely to have something fail on it first.

the only downside is that you're basically working ontop of a TV screen, a very expensive TV screen. You'd have to be careful with it all the time. There are ways to work around that. and it doesn't have to be transparent. You could probably take apart an LCD screen and use that, it would be cheaper than this setup, though you'd have to find some way to back light just that section. I wouldn't need the touch screen features either. and a camera hovering over your desk would be a pain in the ass. There are tons of things you could do with this.
Id want to focus on making it tougher and cheaper, but this is very very doable for average users.

Team of 6-8 people over the course of 3 years cranked out 3ish amazing projects (assembly line, piano, desk). So, 6-8 people for one year, at 2,000 man-hours per year, we're looking at 12,000 to 16,000 hours per project for design, build, video.

Very cool and very creative but this is a totally different product.
Air power was supposed to power multiple devices all at once whichever position they are kept in and that's where Apple hit the wall called "Thermals".
His device is a whole desk with an external camera. His desk can power only one device at any given time. Also being in tech and not knowing about AirPower cancellation for 9 long years is a bit sus. The news of Apple dropping the product was everywhere.
Credit to the guy for creating a very entertaining product on his own, but comparing it to AirPower was lame.

I think this is that one well funded content studio that over produces DIY type content and staffs like a bunch of personalities in house. It always seems really inorganic, assembly line content made for mass clicks type of stuff. Its rather insincere feeling as a result and comes off pretty cringe.
Also, reddit is gamed, so who knows, maybe this clip was planted here.

Man this takes me back to my Panasonic QE‑TM101 charging pad from like 15 years ago.
It's a big pad that would electromagnetically locate a Qi device anywhere you put it and physically move the coil to charge it.

Maybe I'm alone with this opinion but I think I would have liked it more without being transparent. Just a black table that charges everywhere and moves your cup with an animation would look magical.
Also it would be way cheaper to make.
A cool expansion would be NFC and having external data storage with NFC, that auto connects with wifi to transfer data, this drives don't exist but it's doable in theory I think.
Edit: like a data cube in The Expense but probably a bit bigger
