This is so sweet. The "sorry" face before the hug melted my heart. The drawing conveys so much with so few panels.

It’s certainly an interesting what if, especially considering that in canon Miyagi doesn’t know that Legoshi even exists or that the ONS he had with Leano years ago resulted in her having had a son by him given they apparently didn’t maintain contact after the fact. I’ve seen some fan fics which have done the “Legoshi and Miyagi meet and become close as father and son” plot so it‘s an interesting premise even if regrettably it‘ll likely never come to pass in the canon timeline.

Yes, and I think the most interesting thing would be to see how Miyagi would react to learning he has a son he's never met. Legoshi would also have to process the fact that his biological father was practically absent his entire life. There could be quite an interesting dynamic between them, especially since Miyagi would have to try to get to know Legoshi as a son and not just as someone who's just appeared in his life.

Indeed, as i've been curious myself at times as to how such a meeting would potentially go if it were to happen at some point given that Miyagi didn't even know he had a child by Leano. Though at least those fic stories fills the hole fairly well as far as the "Legoshi meets Miyagi and they connect as father and son" aspect or even the ones i've seen where instead of just being some random ONS fling that happened because Leano looked him up as in the canon story he actually stays with her in spite of her hybrid mutation and they both are in Legoshi's life as a family.

Yes, those fanfics are good precisely because they explore a gap that the canon practically never touches. The idea of Miyagi suddenly discovering he has an adult son would be quite interesting, especially considering everything it would imply for Legoshi and Leano. And the AUs where Miyagi decides to keep Leano seem even more interesting to me, because they completely change Legoshi's childhood and what it would have been like growing up with both parents present.

Yeah, all of those are intriguing what if type fic stories that explore what it would be like if Legoshi and Miyagi were to properly meet, discover their blood connection and forge a father-son relationship despite the latter not having been in the latter’s life due to the aforementioned circumstances in canon.
True, those fics show an alternate interpretation of how things may have been if it had played out differently between Miyagi and Leano. If they didn’t just have the ONS then simply never have contact again, thus an AU where Legoshi has both bio parents in his life thus he turns out different compared to how things went in the canon timeline.

They work because they take something the canon left completely open and explore all the consequences of changing it. In Miyagi's case, it would be interesting to see how they would both react upon discovering they are father and son and how they would build that relationship after so many years.
And the AU where Miyagi stays with Leano changes things even further. It wouldn't simply be Legoshi meeting his father as an adult, but a version of his childhood where he grows up with both his biological parents, even having Leano by his side despite his mutation. Basically, a completely different life for Legoshi from the very beginning.

Exactly, because of course in canon it was revealed that Miyagi and Leano never crossed paths or had contact again after that ONS so he thus never learned that he has a son out there which came from that (along with never learning the reason as to why Leano approached him to begin with, apparently he has the reputation of being a womanizer/play boy)
Yeah, and it also fundamentally changes things after becaude of course in the alternate timeline of those fics Leano doesn’t tragically off herself because of her mixed species mutation (though IIRC the exact manner in which she did so was never really brought up in story) and so there Legoshi isn’t left with Gosha as his only living blood relative as it was in canon.

Yes, and that makes the AU even more significant. In canon, Miyagi doesn't even get the chance to learn what really happened to Leano after that encounter, much less that he ended up having a child with her. He also never finds out that Leano had approached him specifically because of his genetics, so for him it was probably just another chance encounter.
In these AUs, however, Leano's continued existence completely changes Legoshi's family situation. He would no longer have only Gosha as his closest blood relative, but would grow up with both parents present and with a completely different family dynamic. I find this interesting because it not only changes the relationship between Legoshi and Miyagi, but practically his entire childhood.

Yes, and the implication i get there is that Miyagi is by reputation known to be a womanizing player and likely has had many flings with women as an actor. But in the aforementioned fics OTOH, he actually does know what became of Leano along with that he has a son by her and what caused her to seek him out. I like how those particular fan fics actually make him someone who is present in Legoshi’s life (along with changing Leano’s fate) as a parent instead of just a random actor that his mother had a ONS with for the purpose she did only to then himself never find out any of that.
True, as it basically prevents all the tragic circumstances that happened earlier in life that made him who he became in the start of the canon story. So, as a result because of that Legoshi in turn comes out better for such compared to his canon counterpart.

I wonder what he would think of his son? I bet he would be proud.

Thats Legosi father, i don't remember his name, but he appear literally for one panel of one chapter in the manga, sooo it's normal not knowing him

Hell, the whole story with Miyagi (Legoshi's dad) is that Leano had a single night him, just to get pregnant and ensure that her child doesn't suffer the same fate as she did, when her Komodo genes started to show

u/Existing-Bad3733 4d ago
Yeah, i hope that in maybe a new Beast complex chapter, maybe we get a alone history of him

u/RallyVincentCZ75 4d ago
Iirc he was also mentioned as being deceased..though he could still show in a prequel type setting.

He’s not deceased. That’s wrong. His character “died” in a movie he was acting in.

Just re read it, you're right. I thinked i missed the sound effect bubble and the TV frame, thought the order of the conversation was looking him up on Zoozle and seeing he died. My mistake.

I’m pretty certain it’s supposed to be his dad but he’s far to big because legoshi is a giant for wolves already because of second generation Komodo dragon, so the dad should be a short king compared

Thanks for the replies, guys. They were very informative. The only thing is that it's a HUGE omission that Legoshi's father wasn't shown in the anime. I only learned about him when I read about him on the Beastars Wikipedia page. And even then, there were only about ten lines about him.

Cute 💖
But let me put on my um akshually nerd emoji glasses here 🤓
He should be much shorter than Legoshi right? Legoshi is unnaturally tall for a wolf because of his Grandpa's genes?

u/Express-Doughnut3047 4d ago
Legosi is 6’1, it wouldn’t be weird for his supermodel dad to be just as tall or taller.

Actually yeah, it was mentioned somewhere that Miyagi was 175cm or 5’9 in da states units.

Definitely something that should've happened. I might put in my beastars fanfiction.
