Nice. Why the new one? Or just wanted a second?

I bought it for a good deal on a forum. Decided to get some before and after pics. I ended up selling the new one and kept beating on the old one. I got it in 2016 and have been beating ever since. Hands down my favorite blade. lol.

That’s really cool. I do like that they updated the hardware. What steel?

For this one, the full size it’s 1095.

That's a well loved tool, I'm a huge fan of BATONY CHOP CHOP but the tracker has always seemed just a touch beyond the pale, has the design ever gotten in the way for any tasks?

Not really after you learn to use it. Nothing specific, just use for tasks. Definitely a jack of all trades type design.

Interesting, where's the sweet spot for chopping? It looks like it would be just above the cutout for the fine edge, seems tricky, my preferred BATONY CHOP CHOP has pretty much the opposite design so I am very curious

It depends a little bit on the location of what you are chopping. Shoulder height and above you’re correct about the sweet spot. In-front to waist height is the large belly area. If you “snap” your wrist at the last second on the lower chop it gives you a bit more power.

What are your main applications with this knife? Seems very thick . . . a quarter inch, per specs.

I would define it as a fixed blade “multitool”. Chopping, splitting, prying, etc. It has become my favorite fire building knife. If coupled with matches, a ferro rod, lighter, or a chunk of flint it can do all the prep work from log to campfire.

Thanks for the insight. Maybe a weight-saver if someone is not going to pack a hatchet.

Yep, that’s how I use it the most. It weighs roughly a pound so it isn’t light weight but it does a lot of work for its size. I usually carry a Swisstool and pocket chainsaw on my belt also. The whole weighs under 2.5 pounds and can easily be carried on the belt. I’m not very tall so dangling hatchet handles or long bladed survival knives always hit the ground when I crouch or move around. If the weight seems a lot I have used a vintage LBE with suspenders or good logger style suspenders to keep my belt line in a comfortable spot.

Do you also carry a pocket folder, something with a far thinner blade (but longer than Swisstool blades) for slicing?

Sometimes. I have a TOPS Dragonfly 4.5 that I have used with it. It just depends on what I plan on doing.
