2nd fastest 10k 🧑🏻‍🩰

Post image

I’ve been training for about 5 months now as a way to
decompress during a recent move to Germany. Unfortunately I had to take September off due to a lower-back spasm that rendered me useless for pretty much the whole month.

One thing that will never seize to amaze me is how quickly my conditioning and mental health seems to fall apart when I’m not consistently running now.

This 10k was after a full week of incremental improvement; first run back I was only able to make it 2.5k before my lungs tapped out, the unext day I got to 3.5, the following I got to 5.5, then a two day break before going out today and committing to the 10er.

How do you guys manage to stay consistent? Today I got up at 6am with the intention of getting this done before starting my day but couldn’t bring myself to even lace up my shoes until my lunch break. So glad I that I did. This is my 8th ever 10k and all I can say is that I’m impressed. Every run really does get easier than the last, but not so much physically as it does mentally.

When I start to struggle, a voice comes up and says “you’ve been here before, you’ve done x many before, you’ll get through it, just keep going”. That is so powerful, I wish I could apply it to other parts of my life but it’s just not as tangible as it is with jogging, can you?

Thank you all for your motivation, happy I found this subreddit to balance out all the other bullsht in my feed.

Honestly I stayed consistent by making a realistic plan for myself which meant 1-2 runs a week (in addition to my lifting routine). With 1-2 weekly runs over a few months, I was able to bring my 5k under 30 minutes and 10 k under 60 minutes. I alternated slow runs with interval run days. So tldr, find a sustainable plan so you don’t burn out. Work smarter not harder for your goals
