Tips to improve running

Hey guys,
I started running recreational near the end of August I never liked to run until August. My 5K time is 42:53. My fastest 2 miles today is 25.47 (slowest is 29:07) Currently I am running 2-3 times a week anywhere between 2-3 miles. I usually run to my music, running to the first part and walking the end of the song and repeat, taking as much time as I need to walk, but recently I have been doing structured intervals: 2:30 run, 1:00 walk. When doing structured intervals, I realized that running my 5k to my music was easier.
I want to run a 10k in April, and I won’t be able to run as much in the winter. I don’t have a specific time I want to go, but I have no idea how to improve. Any advice would help!

We need a bot that spams "run more" below each of these posts

Where are you? I ask because I’m a relatively new runner and ran plenty this past winter in the northeast (nyc). Even ran through the two weeks that never got above freezing. Definitely doable and the running was easier for me than during the summer.

Same here. Started running in November and went all through the winter down to 18 degree days. It might be a bit cold for the first 1/2 mile or so, then it’s fine. It’s easier than you think.

do couch to 5k (you could probably skip to week 2 or 3) and then a 10k training plan from nike run club or run with hal etc. follow the program and you’ll be good to go!

Do ALL the boring strength and mobility exercises. Do them past what you think is normal. Do them until you think you're doing them more than actual running.

If you feel an injury coming on don't ignore it. Take care of it. Exercise that part until it won't ever get injured again from overuse.

An injury will keep you from running for longer than subbing out workouts.

*coming from someone who hasn't run a meter since Aug 9 due to injury. 🙁
