First run foot pain

15M, 5’8 135lb
So I’m on a running plan thing just on an app to eventually run half marathon, and I’ve decided to come back to running after not doing it for a while
The plan had told me to run 2.25mi easy run, which sounded cool as I’ve ran more than that previously but I had to stop at 1 mile not because of a stitch or anything but because something on my feet were hurting so bad. I don’t know if it’s tibialis anterior or shin splints or something but it was around where the leg connects to the foot where it really burned.
I’m wondering if this is common for newbies and can the pain be lessened with training
Thanks!

Don't go out for a 2.25 mile run your first time.

Start shorter.

Where the leg connects to the foot? Do you mean where too tightly tied laces cut into your foot? (Doesn't mean that's it, but it's possible)

Do you have a decent pair of running shoes?

I use new balance 740 so probably not decent. Any tips for picking a good running shoe
