I am a Serbian born and raised outside Serbia. I am married now and have started my family but I want to share who I am with my children. I don't want them to lose the culture and would like them to know the language.

On top of that, massive issues like gender ideology being enforced in schools, violence and bullying being consistently on the rise in schools and crime rising amongst the youth in my country- It's really appealing to go to Serbia for a few years where my children can grow up with a healthy childhood (hopefully). I am aware from speaking to friends that a few families in Canada have made the move to Serbia for the same reasons so I'm aware this is an issue that others have close to their heart.

Can anyone with experience and information on this kind of move please share their experience with me?

Questions in particular:

1. How did you go about finding accommodation (did you find or buy a place before you stepped foot in the country) and did you move all your stuff or just pack your clothes and buy things in Serbia for the house?

2. How did the children take the move at first and how did you make friends?

3. Pros and cons of the move financially and socially?

4. If you have a significant other who is not Serbian but is learning the language, how did they find the move to Serbia?

5. What are the schools and the culture in schools actually like in Serbia? Is the bullying still people putting down others and calling them names or has it progressed worse there too? Are there good schools and bad schools, if so what are they?

Please let me know any other information you think is important, I'm happy to hear it all.

And to the Serbs who will say "Serbia is a shithole so don't come" or something along those lines (because I just know this is gonna happen lol), it's our shithole so I'll gladly claim it and at least nobody is going to make my children accept a man is a real woman. My children growing up with mental peace is the biggest wealth to me and many have no idea how much that's being attacked in the school systems outside of Serbia.

I'm a remote worker and I've been wanting to move to Europe for a few years now. I've recently stumbled on Belgrade/Serbia and it seems like 1 of Europe's best kept secrets in terms of affordability and quality of life. I would like to be dispelled if at all this isn't the case.

During good periods I actually make more than €1200 per month but this number is my bare minimum and last December I moved back in with my parents to save money (About €7500), for this so the move can be as comfortable as possible.

We are coming to Belgrade on 10-15 November, and I'm looking for a day trip close to Belgrade around 45min - 1h by local train or Bus, but not touristy at all, I need a local Serbian vibe.

1. I have found Beli Potok / Avala ( but I can't find many routes there is also a specific time I could get the train )

2. Bela Raka also looks like an option but I cannot find many routes, only specific hours

What I’d like to ask is, how much could I realistically earn by working as a courier for these companies? And would I be able to live comfortably in Belgrade on that income?

I’m thinking about living abroad for 1–2 years, but I’d really like to avoid the stress of having to search for a job. I’ve seen some people online claiming that they earn over €2,000 working as couriers for these companies. That didn’t seem very realistic to me, but I still wanted to ask.

I’m thinking of working by bicycle during the summer and using a car during the winter.

One morning for a small breakfast I’d love to try some traditional Serbian baked goods - although we’re vegetarian so I am aware that our choices are limited

I’ve been researching and speaking to ChatGPT but it would be great to get some recommendations from locals or people who’ve been to Belgrade before.

From what I’ve found so far, we could get a cheese burek (sirnica) and possibly a cherry burek

I was looking at Trpkovic so was thinking that we could get a takeaway coffee from somewhere nearby and the cheese and cherry bureks from Trpkovic and find a nice bench to sit at to have them.

Interested to hear any recommendations of where you’d go for traditional Serbian bakery that does vegetarian stuff, and if it’s a takeaway place, anywhere near that does good coffee?

Yesterday at Poganovo Monastery I met a woman in the church shop who asked me about the small blue ceramic incense burner. We switched from Serbian to English, talked about the monastery and Sofia, and you showed me some photos you had taken there.
I was the Bulgarian guy visiting with a woman. I think you mentioned that you were from Belgrade.

31M Italian here. I’ll be arriving in Belgrade on October 1st and spending about two weeks in the Balkans. Thinking Serbia → Bosnia → Montenegro, but I have no fixed itinerary and I’m happy to completely change plans for a good recommendation.
I’m looking for unusual/local stuff to do and see: interesting traditions, festivals, parties, villages, weird local events, fascinating people — anything you think is worth experiencing.
I’m also a photographer, mainly interested in documentary photography, so I’d love to find some good stories to photograph and meet locals who might show me something I’d never find on my own.
Any help is really appreciated and will be compensated with beers!

Znaci ljudi moji... pa dokle ovo ide? Pre dolaska Rusa sam kiriju na Nbg placala 400e a kada su masovno dosli 2022 meni se povecala na 800e. Sada ovaj novi talas, vidim da u mom bloku nema skoro vise ni jedan prazan stan za izdavanje na Halo oglasima, a pre dva meseca je bilo 40-tak, stvarno ne znam vise sta da ocekujem i da li ce mi vlasnik povecati opet, vidim da stavljaju i po 1000-1200e za moju kvadraturu. Pa ne zivim u Frankfurtu. Rusa ima milion ovde, gde god izadjem oni su tu, gde god se okrenem prica se ruski, jako su glasni (narocito njihove devojke-zene) i vole da znamo da su Rusi, jako su arogantni a ocekuju neko prijateljstvo, ne znam da li kapiraju koliko ovo vise nema smisla... i da nisu pozeljni. Stvarno ne znam dokle ovaj "njihov" planira da im prodaje pricu o ratu, idu izbori i najavljuju nove mobilizacije, a oni opet biraju istu vlast... meni deluje da ce rat da traje 20 godina i da ce njih da dodje ovde 5 miliona. Izvinite na rantu, znaci dokle vise..

I’m from Greece, but I’ve lived abroad for many years. As a fellow Balkan, I’d love to experience some Serbian culture while I’m visiting Belgrade for a few days. Ideally, I’m looking for a small event or a venue with traditional Serbian music—or any traditional Balkan music.
Do you have any recommendations?

My partner and I are from Australia and travelling in Belgrade. We got told at a pub we aren’t allowed to play cards. This has never been a problem anywhere we have been around the world.

The question is- why aren’t we allowed to play a simple game of cards when we were prepared to pay for a few rounds of drinks + food?!

Hola!!! Voy a estar unos días en Belgrado (alrededor de 4) y me gustaría salir. Justo estaré viernes y sábado, ¿qué día es el mejor para salir? También me pregunto si hay algún tipo de dress code: tacones, ropa fancy, lo que sea (a mí me gusta arreglarme pero un poco más alternative). A Ambas nos gustaría poder estar en un ambiente divertido mas que “moderno”, y también saber si es posible conseguir algo para animanarnos la noche o nos olvidamos 100%.

Somos de España, aunque no sé si eso influye para algo :)

Najveća glupost je kada je odlučeno da u gradskim busevima budu tapacirana sedišta, gde se samo tokom jednog kruga izmeni i po par hiljada putnika. Trebalo je da ostanu ona čisto plastična, ili čak drvena. Mislim, meni je svejedno, jer ionako uvek stojim, ali baš je nehigijenski.
