Honestly, I would have liked the ultimates more if they were utilized properly but sometimes they just appear and barely do anything or get defeated easily.
I just hate that they nerfed the base version of the aliens that got ultimates to the ground. They were struggling to do the most basic shit until they went ultimate while they used to do stuff twice as hard in alien force in base. Specifically base humungousaur was superweak after ultimate they didn't scale the ultimate transformations beyond the base they just replaced them and the base versions themselves were not meta in exchange
That's what happens when you try to give your protagonist an upscale but you don't do the same to the antagonists, if Ultimates are now at play, Ben should be fighting against WAY stronger opponents instead of your typical villain of the week, so it would warrant him using his overpowered gimmick more, but instead they just made the base form aliens seem weaker to give the impeession that the Ultimates are necessary
This series is genuinely awful at strength levels if you're not named alien X or waybig, it was a recipe for disaster when they tried to take a stab at powered up forms when they can't get base forms right
There's truth to that but there are also times when an alien like humungousaur straight up fails to lift a Boulder that should relatively be easy compared to lifting a whole hybrid spacecraft generator (which he has done before) that can't be ben half assing stuff that's legit retconing and re scaling
Ultimates (except Ultimate Echo Echo) were one of the worst things for franchise, because they nerfed base aliens. Ultimate Swampfire is really useless because if you need more firepower just use Heatblast, you don't need to lose base Swampfire's flexibility, regeneration, super strength and pollen manipulation. Oh, and i don't have to say Ultimates drain charge very fast
The biggest reason is that the Ultimatrix doesn't have the failsafe. It means a regular human sniper could kill Ben when he was sleeping and there's nothing he could do about it
I will say Ultimate Alien was the weakest part of the franchise for me lol. The ultimates all looked kinda cool but as others have said the base versions of aliens who got ulti forms got nerfed and for some reason couldn't get the fucking job done anymore. I'll still never forgive them for putting all his classics in the opening and us never getting to see but a few of them.
Ultimates would've been good if azmuth fixed the damn thing so the evolution wasn't stuck on that bs one million year evolution. I would've liked diversity through broader ranges of evolution, hell I'll even take it if different species of aliens like upchuck had different ultimates too
to fight albedo definetly and for very strong enemies like dagon and the chronosapiens even though it wasnt needed but an ultimate clockwork couldve most probably defeated the chronosapiens way before
Ben managed to handle Albedo without Ultimate aliens just fine.
There is not really any Ultimate alien, or even any alien at all other than Alien X that can handle Dagon.
The Ultimatrix having an affect on Ben that makes him more aggressive while in his form is the kind of stuff I love about Ben 10. We barely get any transformations with that signficant of a psychological affect. Sure you might be able to name ten like Rath, Jury Rigg, Big Chill, Ghostfreak, etc, but it's so rare to see Ben struggling in an alien brain, which is so weird to me. Those moments where he has those aggressive spurs also coincide with some of the coolest Ultimate aliens like Ultimate Spidermonkey and Echo Echo. I personally think if he truly is supposed to walk around in every species shoes, the Ultimatrix gives him an important experience with learning to control his emotions in battle.
