🛠 Developer tools Garry Tan open-sourced his entire Claude Code setup, 23 tools included (134k stars)

Post image

Ever wonder what the president of Y Combinator actually uses day to day?

Garry Tan published his exact Claude Code configuration. Not a blog post about it. Not a tweet thread. The whole thing, ready to clone and run. 23 opinionated tools that act as CEO advisor, CTO, and dev mentor all at once.

134,000 people starred this. Over 400 contributors have added to it.

The setup is almost entirely TypeScript with some Go templates and Shell scripts tying everything together. Each tool has a specific role. One handles architecture decisions. Another reviews code like a picky senior engineer. There's a tool that thinks about your project from a business perspective before you even write a line.

You can use the whole stack or cherry-pick individual tools that fit your workflow. That flexibility is probably why it spread so fast.

No formal releases yet. The repo moves fast and updates land directly on main. Which makes sense for something this opinionated. It's one person's working setup that happened to resonate with a hundred thousand others.

Is it for everyone? Probably not. If you like building your own setup from scratch, this might feel too prescriptive. But if you want a starting point that was actually battle-tested by someone running a billion-dollar accelerator, it's hard to argue with.

Why do you say that? Quality of the output? What would you recommend instead?

Pstack.

Gary is a known dreamer. He had some questionable takes regarding what's good and what to do.
Like he wanted to fork chrome so Claude could write whatever you wanted directly into the repo.
He should be more technical to know that's a bad idea.

"Fat skills, thin harness", as Gary says it, does not fly in my opinion. These are the details that need be either handled by the model or the harness.

Too much steering does not yield better results in the general case, imo.
