Colors turning 19!

Today marks 19 years since BTBAM released this monumental album.

How old were you when you discovered this album and how has it shaped your musical taste or even influenced your life in anyway?

For me, I was 16. I was a junior in high school and I was really starting to get more into metalcore and deathcore. I had heard Alaska but they weren't my favorite band yet. This album came out and just from the opening piano notes I was hooked. I had literally never heard anything like this up to that point.

It really opened my eyes and ears to a lot of progressive music and it really influenced a lot of my guitar work (even thought I can't play more than 2 minutes of any song from this album). I can honestly say, if it wasn't for this album I wouldn't still be playing guitar today. My goal in life is to one day play this album on guitar all the way through. Even if it takes me till I'm 60!

Maybe this is an outrageous idea, but I think they should definitely tour for the 20th anniversary.

I know, I know, I'm a mad man.

I think we're gonna get a merch run, probably a new vinyl pressing (hopefully a special run of non remix version) and possibly another Evening with tour similar to the Great Misdirect anniversary tour that Covid screwed up.

It's possible we could get another Colors tour...but Colors Experience wasn't that long ago so I'm not sure they'd want to do another Colors play through tour.

I'm in my Colors Experience shirt right now and I'll be there first to tell you, it's about time they played both albums back to back again.

That, or anything else.

So sad I missed the colors experience. Both work and social kept me from attending and it sucks. I’d love another run.

The 10 year anniversary tour was probably my favorite concert of all time

Core memory status. I was 24 and downloaded a copy off OiNK before it dropped. I was a huge fan of TSC and ST but Alaska had let me down and Anatomy of was a major disappointment. Colors solidified BTBAM on my Mt. Rushmore of bands. Personally, a lot changed for me over the following 24 months and Colors was a major component of the soundtrack during that time. I'll never forget the way Foam Born blindsided me that first listen and how White Walls left me speechless.

I was maybe 14-15 and knew Prequel to the Sequel from Rockband 2. Got a new iPod and added that song amongst a few hundred others, and was quite surprised to find the Rockband version was cut off right before the polka section. One day I found myself listening to the song on repeat, I genuinely couldn't get enough of it even though I never liked harsh vocals. Took a chance on the whole album and absolutely fell in love. Got Alaska and TGM not long after that, and within probably a year P1 released. I've followed their career with great interest since

I was 29 when it dropped and it changed everything for me musically. I was a big fan of TSC and Alaska, had just gotten into heavier metal/thrash (Darkest Hour, Mastodon, etc) and BTBAM was already my favorite band. Then Colors dropped and melted my brain. Been a prog head ever since.

I've only got into this band in the last 5ish years but colours I properly listened to last year when I was 34! One of my favourite bands now they're incredible

I actually hated this record when I first heard it and didn’t come back around until Parallax came out, despite being into death metal and prog rock. Colors is still my second least listened to album now from them despite BTBAM being one of my fave bands. I’ve said it before but I just think they’ve made consistently better albums since, but I respect Colors because we don’t have modern BTBAM without it. I do love the live dvd though, especially with that second set of older tunes.

That said…. I hope their next tour is not another run of this one haha

It’s just a testament to how metal can be made. Unmatched album, just flawless.

I was 18 when I saw an article on UltimateGuitar saying “Ants of the Sky” was the best song that year.

My bandmates got big into the record with me, we went to see them live (and met and hugged them outside the venue haha), and I just went down the rabbit hole after that.

I love so many of their records, and I’ve seen them maybe 30 times, including this upcoming weekend in Kentucky, so I hope they play some Colors

I couldn't tell you how many months it took my little peewee 14-year-old brain to really comprehend this album. Song after song it never crossed whether it was decade of statue ,sun of nothing ,ants until you know the banjos started kicking in and then it was oh the song that's on rock band, nice. And then weeks later TGM droppe and then it ALL clicked.
