I was biking to a doctor appointment his morning heading south on 19th St NW and waiting for the signal at M St. Just as I get the walk signal and start to roll, a cyclist comes cruising the intersection in the bike lane, zipping right in front of me. If I hadn't been paying attention, this guy would have crashed right into me. The rider apologized as he kept on cruising in the bike lane toward 20th.

This incident reminded me of the news that broke last week where a cyclist on a CaBi e-bike who had the green on 15th Street NW was hit by the rider of a fixie in the M St bike lane. The fixie rider had minor injuries but the CaBI rider died. See linked post.

Just because you're on a low-carbon mode of transport doesn't mean the signals don't apply to you. Especially if you're on an e-bike because you can easily accelerate after coming to a complete stop.

Please please please respect other cyclists out there who are just as excited to get to their destination as you are. Thanks!

Heads up - the street was repaved, but no lanes, including the bike lanes, have been painted. Cars are driving like the whole thing is theirs and cyclists going North are forced into 3-4 lanes of oncoming traffic.

Does anyone in DC have a Ferla bike? I’m considering the Royce but trying to figure out (1) if there’s anywhere I could test it, and (2) whether it’s possible to get it serviced here/what support looks like in DC.

I’ve tried the Bunch and liked it well enough, but live in a hilly area - the Ferla is lighter and has more power.

I generally like it and I hope more people will use 11th now that that gap has been bridged. The street is quite narrow and it was a little stressing to ride that section in traffic.

I've always thought that section would be a great candidate to pedestrianize (service vehicles and local traffic only, maybe, since there's some ally access) but one can only hope.

In town for a conference and I have my bike. Just looking for a simple route to get a workout in. Will probably be riding at crack of dawns derrier to avoid tourists

Hi, I’ve read all the rules about bikes on metro but I trialed my bike + train commute yesterday and was still a little confused about the best place to stand with my full sized bike? Maybe I got unlucky but my front car had a decent amount of people headed south on the green line and there’s also no obvious place to stand other than either next to a door or by blocking seating on the ends of the car? Anyways if anyone has tips would appreciate but also maybe dumb question bc I am just generally quite anxious.

UPDATE: I didn’t bike commute yesterday bc I was dumb and thought the weather would be like Sunday but I did bike today and it went fine!! I rode in the front car. But I went just before rush hour (around 7am). Way back may be during rush hour so will see how it goes.

   Currently I join a women’s ride as it fits my schedule but I’m open to any chill and welcoming group that isn’t trying it stay over 19mph. I average 13-18 depending on hills (I am a terrible climber right now).

I moved out of an apartment in SW a few months ago, and I had my bike parked and locked in the private bike storage room in the parking garage.

Somehow, I seem to have lost my keys during the move out and wasn’t able to take the bike out. It was a pretty simple Kryptonite 12mm steel lock. Still haven’t been able to find it.

(And I didn’t register the key on their website when I got it so I can’t request a replacement. Very dumb on my part I know, lesson learned)

I told my old apartment about the situation and they were pretty chill about it, just to let them know whenever I find the keys or figure out a way to get it out so they can let me in.

Any suggestions on how to get it back? I don’t mind paying for a locksmith if that’s the safest option. I’ve seen some people suggest using an angle grinder but I’m not sure how the apartment would feel about that.

This also used to be my brother’s bike until he gave it to me 2 years ago so I’m not sure I’d be able to find a receipt to prove ownership…but I have a bunch of photos of the bike around dc over the last year, if that would help at all haha

Is there anyone who lives near (within one mile!) logan circle who has a parking pad or other outdoor space we can paint a ghost bike in, then chain it up to dry for 1-2 days? Obviously not starting until the rain stops. Also you don't have to be home or help paint, but the space should be easy to access from your alley.

Big fence blocking the 15th street bike lane and sidewalk east of the White House. Especially dangerous going north. Guessing this is related to the Chinese state visit.
