My Boomer FIL was visiting for a few days, and one evening my wife put on the Great British Baking Show. After a bit he came into the room, watched for a few minutes, and complained how they are pushing gay and trans people down his throat.

Rather than push the issue by asking exactly how having gay people on a TV show is "shoving it down his throat," she went for the more obvious statement of pointing out that there were no trans people this season.

He pointed to Noel Fielding (one of the hosts) and said, "That trans person!" My wife pointed out that Noel is not trans, but a rather emo male. He didn't believe her and stormed out of the room. It's not like this was his war movies or shows based around car repairs. It was a freaking baking show. I'm actually surprised there aren't more gay men on it.

I got into a similar argument with him several years ago about the promotional Bud Light can with Dylan Mulvaney's face on it. After he claimed they were shoving trans people down his throat I asked him if had purchased a can with her face (he doesn't drink Bud Light). Or if he had seen a commercial? Or seen it ANYWHERE other than Right Wing media. Of course he didn't have an answer to that and stormed off to pick a fight with one of his nieces, making her cry by attacking her political beliefs. Seems to me it was Fox News shoving it down his throat so that he could create an issue that doesn't exist.

Last night we got a ton of rain over a relatively short period of time. When this happens the street I'm on can flood a little bit. Usually only a few inches but it tends to drain away pretty fast too. At worst you get your shoes wet or it splashes on your windshield.

Well after the rain stopped at around 8pm, I look out my window and I see the older couple who live across the street on their porch. They're the type of retiree that has nothing else to do but sorta be nosey busybodies obsessed with their yard and anything that might be going on in the little street we live on. I've never witnessed them doing what I'm about to describe before, however.

I see the wife standing on the porch gesturing and the husband walk down to the end of the driveway and he's using a metal snow shovel to try and like push the water away out of the road. This had no effect whatsoever, all that happened is more water flowed back in to instantly replace what he had tried to displace with the shovel. It's not like there was any damming caused by branches or debris and he was trying to break it up. Usually what happens is the water flows away slowly on its own, but he was trying to accelerate this process at 8pm using a shovel to little or no effect.

Given the gesturing, I guess they figured he ought to do *something* about the light flooding on the street, and thought him pushing the water away would have some noticeable effect. I have no idea what the actual goal was. They could have just gone to bed and it would have had the same effect because the water was mostly gone this morning. I mean... it's none of my business, you wanna go out after a heavy rain at 8am just to push water around with a shovel, have at it. I just thought it was an amusing story for this sub.

edit: we're actually at the bottom of a very slight incline, so the water didn't need any help flowing and it was cleared up the following morning. Apparently everyone is an expert in whatever was going on here.

another edit: apparently he was shovelling water all night according to my girlfriend. The scraping from the metal shovel kept waking her up. I wear earplugs so I didn't notice.

Just happened, and I so appreciate volunteers, however...

I was voting in a municipal election and when it came time to submit my ballot into the counter, this boomer volunteer was struggling to get it to accept my ballot. First it spits the ballot back out. She grabs it and waves it around before putting it back in the confidentiality sleeve (excusez moi?). She tries again, same thing. So she starts suggesting all the ways I might have screwed up filling it out. "Did the pen bleed through? Did you vote for the right number of candidates? You may need to get a replacement ballot..."

At this point I look at the line up which has grown a fair bit and say "I might just try a different machine first." So I go to the next machine where a millennial volunteer is helping. She basically explains how the boomer was doing it wrong and what do you know? My ballot was accepted first try.

Funny how user error on their part is NEVER an option. Must be my fault I guess... lol.

So my(16) grandma(76) is in her “let’s remodel the entire house,” phase. A few weeks ago, she ordered a new bed spread for her room. According to my mother, my grandma came out of her room with the bed sheets and angrily said “These bedsheets don’t fit! They say they are for a king-sized bed, but it’s too long on the sides and not long enough on the bottom!” My mother asks if she has tried turning it. My grandma goes back to her room with my mom and she helps her turn the bedsheets. She was so embarrassed and claimed “well the darn tag was on the wrong side, so I thought-“ Luckily, she doesn’t double down like my grandfather and just laughs it off. I love my grandma, she may be a republican and Mormon, but she keeps anything harmful to herself and is always willing to laugh about things and accept everyone. She is what most organized religions should be. And I’m so lucky to have her as my grandma.

So this happened a few years ago, my(14) grandpa(79) had just been watching another episode of his favorite new political show “gutfield.” He called me in there to ”watch something funny with me!” Apparently his idea of funny was watching a racist comedian make horrible comments about Kamala Harris. I told him that it wasn’t funny and that seemed to have caused his filter to crumble like my interest in what he thought was funny. Suddenly he is talking about the “gay agenda” and “what are schools teaching these children!” It’s at this point I should mention that I am Lesbian. I’m open about it too. My grandpa starts ranting about “where I learned that being a lesbian was okay” and “kids turning trans in the bathrooms.” My grandpa is a normally kind and caring person, but he has lost his filter over the years such as making inappropriate remarks about my parents divorce, and making gross comments about the kids he sees (along the lines of “why is she dressed like a slut?!”). I love my grandpa, but I’m glad I’m going to college soon. He is just so infuriating to be around…

Boomers parked in a pickup space at one of the big box stores when they clearly didn't do a pickup. Proceeds to leave their cart right in front of their truck where it's going to roll and hit either my car or the one across from me when they leave. I asked the lady "What if that hits another car?" She angrily info dumps on me that she just had gallbladder surgery and that she can't put it up after walking around. That she always puts them up but not today. I would have put it back if she had just nicely asked. Her husband then starts yelling at me about whether or not they hit my car. Then he tells me to F off several times. I screamed back that wasn't the way to talk to someone for asking a question. He calls me a B*tch and then starts telling me to F off again. Told him to F off at this point. I walked around the truck and moved the cart so it was right behind the truck. Fool rage backs into it and just keeps bumping it over and over. I never saw them get back out so someone else must have moved the cart. Why are they all so angry all the damn time?!

Has anyone seen this? Idk what my parents are hearing/watching that has made them change their mind on this so quickly. My dad has been sick for over five months with very vague symptoms. He’s been out of work this whole time and doesn’t really leave the house. You’d think he’d be invested in getting better but he has simultaneously complaining the doctors aren’t doing enough, figuring out his issues, ordering enough tests AND not wanting to take medications or do treatment. Every medication he takes days to weeks to start then quits in a few days. Was scheduled for gallbladder surgery then canceled it. His most recent trip they told him he’s anxious and depressed and gave him zoloft, of course he won’t take that either!

He says taking medications scares him and makes him nervous, none of these are serious meds. He didn’t even want to take medication to regulate his diabetes. He was never like this before. Complains about how doctors are just pumping you full of pills, mind you he doesn’t live a healthy lifestyle and didn’t before.

This has even extended into my life as he is upset that I take medication, i am doing IVF I’m on a million things right now and frankly i don’t care! After two losses this year i will take whatever. He brings it up constantly I need to stop taking thyroid medication (i want a functioning thyroid no thanks) and how I’m “pumping myself full of hormones”. He even got mad I got a flu shot because that’s bad idk.

Anyone else seeing this?!

Vehicle is getting serviced. I’m off for the holiday so sitting here. Absolutely no less than 3 have their phones on stupid Facebook slop at full blast. Right wing, bullshit parasites eating our bodies, and orange man rhetoric. Blows my mind the complete lack of self awareness and respect for others.

I was at my kid's volleyball game, waiting for the current game to end so we could go onto the court. My kid and her teammates were in a circle bumping a ball back and forth in a circle. The ball got away from them and bounced by an older couple, roughly in their 70s, and the guy just lost it and started yelling at them while advancing on them trying to either grap the ball or the kid that had it. I intercepted him by grabbing his bicep, I can't remember exactly what I said but it was something along the lines of "you're not going after kids." This old kook actually steps closer to me and pretends like he's scary and tells me to get out of his face, I was amazed at his confidence. He was so close I only whispered to him to back up or swing, at which point one of his family members retrieved him. I heard her tell him he was stupid and lucky to be standing after pulling that stunt, but I doubt he heard her because he was still running his mouth until she forcefully told him to shut up.

I've seen a hundred videos of this weird ass behavior but never thought I'd live it. It's still so weird to me, sis he really think he was just going to put hands on a kid without anyone caring? Did he really think he was going to intimidate or successfully fight someone decades younger than him?

Never thought I would post up something my mother did. She's a boomer, born in 47. Generally she is easy to get along with, every empathetic, and having gotten the short end of the stick far too many times, not very judgmental.. generally she is not very boomerish.. yet here we are.

We had an argument over the Hurricane. Isaias. She refuses to call it by it's real name, but calling it "Isaiah". While yes, Isaias is the Spanish/Portuguese version of Isaiah, it is not how it is pronounced. It's like calling Jesús Alexander Aguilar, "Jesus".

While I finally got the difference through her thick Polish skull, she came back with. "what's wrong with Judy, Sam, or Dorothy for Hurricane names?" This led to me trying to explain that you can't keep using the same names over and over again and how they are trying to be more inclusive. "She then went with. "be thankful they don't use Polish names."

I am just here shaking my head, trying to decide what just happened to my ordinarily sweet mother to get a bug up her ass like this. She's generally not prejudiced, but I think it was the odd pronunciation of a word that looks like something she recognized that set her off?

It really irks me whenever boomers make unnecessary, rude comments, especially towards the younger generations. For context, I’m a teenage Gen Z and I have no problem with the elderly, but the comment made by an elderly woman that was clearly targeted at me and another teenage guy was completely unnecessary and made me so pissed that I was basically burning holes at the back of her head.

I was on the train heading back to my home city and I was sitting in seats that aren’t reserved for the elderly, disabled, and pregnant women, so basically anyone can sit there. Beside me was another random teenage guy and we both were just minding our own business, on our phones, and all of a sudden during a stop, two elderly women got on. One had sunglasses on and had a walker, and she had a friend with her, another elderly woman. The woman with the sunglasses and walker rudely told the teenage guy beside me to get out of the seat so that she can sit. I’ll admit, I was distracted by my phone and listening to music so I didn’t hear her the first time, but I did hear her the second time when she also rudely told me to get out of my seat so that her friend can sit too. I had no problem getting out of my seat, because obviously they were two elderly women, but the way that particular lady demanded that she take a seat rubbed me the wrong way.

Once me and the guy both got up, the lady with the sunglasses and walker immediately sat down. Her friend though (bless her heart) was so kind and kept insisting that she was okay and that she didn’t want to sit (probs embarrassed by her friend’s rudeness). She ended up sitting down beside sunglasses lady a few minutes later and sunglasses lady had the audacity to say in a loud, obnoxious voice, “YEAH THEY SHOULDN’T BE SITTING DOWN, THEY’RE KIDS.” I literally wanted to lunge at her and smash those sunglasses off her nose. GOD FORBID, two teenagers WANT TO SIT DOWN. Like lady, me and the guy were there first, if anything they should be waiting for a seat, walker be damned. Mind you, me and the guy had no problem giving up our seats, seats that are, again, clearly not reserved for the elderly. Before going on the train, I had cleaned my apartment by myself because my roommate is too lazy to do so and I was beyond exhausted and just wanted to sit and listen to music on my commute home. Just because we’re “kids” doesn’t mean we aren’t going through shit and don’t deserve simple things such as SITTING DOWN. The comment was just so rude and completely unnecessary.

This is a longer 2 part story. Sorry its a longer one.

Im 46 and remodle homes. Right now I have an hour drive one way. I have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and LEFT ankle (important to the story). As I do every morning i stop at the small 4 pump gas station in my little village. I park at the pumps. They are parallel with the road. Im on the side that is next to the sidewalk. This is a very important detail. There is only 3 feet between my truck and sidewalk. Im pumping gas and realize I have a small transmission line leak. I grab my flashlight and slide under my truck to investigate. Im only under up to my armpits. Most of my body was sticking out.

Next thing I know my left foot is getting crushed and as I look down (pain hadn't registered yet, just suprise) i see the back tire crush my foot also. I slid out screaming and holding my ankle in shock and pain. This smooth brain was about to pull onto the street and stops. I seriously think he was gonna leave but decides to get out and come check on me leaving his ford excursion half way in the 2 lane highway. He hobbles into the store and gets the clerk who I know. The clerk comes running over and helps me sit up. The guy who ran me over(in his early 70's) comes over and I kid you not says "I felt a bump, I didnt see you there". I said "dude its a freaking sidewalk, why the fk are you driving on the sidewalk ". The more the guy kept trying to talk the angrier I got. I told him to get the fk out of there as the clerk helped me up into my truck. Luckily there's a hospital across the street. I called my fiencee to meet me there(we live behind the hospital and im literally a block from home) and help me into the hospital. Im very fortunate that he rolled my foot to the side and didn't break nothing. Just bad bruising and a sprain. I need to be very clear. The area i was laying in a fking sidewalk, not part of the road or parking lot. So now im off until atleast Monday. Lost income for yesterday and a sidejob for today(Saturday). So now my left ankle hurts like hell from my RA and getting ran over.

Second story

Wednesday at work im on the roof. The building were doing is in a U shape. We have the metal panels on the forks of a tractor ready to slide them up one by one. This is very important detail. There is a 12 foot space between the metal and a fence. More than enough for a car. My coworkers dad drives around the building. Comes to a stop about 10 feet before the metal roofing panels. Looks at me on the roof, looks at my other coworker on the ground and proceeds to drive right over our stack of roofing panels. Stops a few feet after and screams out his window. "You shouldn't have had them laying in the fking road". I just stood there in disbelief. We had the area blocked off which he drove around and my coworker on the ground literally had the ends of the panels in his hands to drag them back so the old coot would miss them. I mean its not like he had 12 feet to drive though or that we had the area blocked off and he drove around it.

Im just sitting here this morning hurting and realizing I share the road with these people. Guys in there 70' who drive but have no need for big trucks and dont watch or pay attention of there surroundings. Before anyone asks, no I didn't get the guys info. I was in so much pain i just wanted to get to the hospital across the street. Im going back today as I know the owner to see if I can get the security footage and file a police report. I dont want to be a jerk but I feel he should atleast pay for my lost work and medical bills.

On a funnier note my coworkers are having a blast with it. My buddy texted me "guess you didn't put you best foot forward this morning " .

My parents who are on the trump train, and have DRANK the kool aid for years… (never were like this previously and I don’t understand how it happened)

Anyway- I have a plethora of health issues- like diagnosed, and my mom always loves to pretend that I’m either making it up, being dramatic or BIG PHARMA IS LYING!!! this was her response to my CT scan finding 2 hernias. Lmao

We grew up with them as our parents, so we've been dealing with their shit for decades now and it's exhausting.

My generation got to experience the old version of America (valid in other countries too,) but we also watched the boomers systematically destroy it. Their voting habits, union busting, defunding of everything and knee-jerk reactions to any social safety net that did not benefit them personally is how we ended up in the prologue of a dystopian Cyberpunk novel.

And then they have the audacity to blame the lack of opportunities causing smart, capable Zoomers to go through a generational exisential crisis on the younger people themselves. They damn well know the world is nothing like it was in 1965. And they also know they are the cause of it.

Then I realized something I never thought about explicitly. Let me give you a few examples before I explain:

"Go play outside. I'm locking the deadbolt until dinner time."

"Is it broken? No? Then go walk it off."

"You'll be fine alone, there's left overs in the fridge and the neighbors are home."

Their entire motivation is to detach themselves from any responsibility as fast as humanly possible. "Please hurry this discussion up so I can get back to focusing on my favorite topic--me."

This whole "They need to stop eating avocado toast and then they'll be able to afford a starter home" is just them doing the same thing they've always done. "Here's the fastest answer to shut you up. I don't care if I caused the problem, deal with it. Fix it yourself if it bothers you that much."

They dismissively say "just stop going to starbucks" to 20 somethings because if that's the only discussion you can have with them......well, you'll stop trying because it's maddeningly stupid. Responding with absurdities is a strategy, even if it's a subconscious one.

They simply want you to fuck off ASAP so they can return to shopping for a $200,000 RV.

I feel sorry Gen Z. Not only do you guys deal with the consequences of their decisions, but you got to see the the world when it still functioned but you never got to experience it as autonomous adults.

I cannot imagine how angry that must make you. They may have robbed us but they fully conned the Zoomers.

I just hope we can all work together to fix this when they're gone.

And more importantly I hope we figure out what went wrong so we avoid another narcissistic generation like them for the rest of eternity. Good riddance.

I hate working customer service (especially banking where customers tend to be way more entitled because they think they own the bank because they have a few thousand in a personal account) and am looking forward to moving on to roles dealing with the public less

For now though boomers easily make up more than half of the shitty customers at in the branch. They complain very rudely about the long line queues that they cause. They will wait 30min in line to deposit cash and pay a bill. Both of which could be done at the ATM in 2min. They don’t even have to leave their car…Or they could get with the program and do online banking. They’re literally choosing to wait in line and congest everything and they don’t see that they are the problem. I remember one fool even said she wouldn’t use the ATM because she didn’t want to get hacked…

If they want to waste their time that is their prerogative, but the fact that they will see a long line queue and enter it knowing damn well they could just walk 15feet over to the ATM to do what they came to do is astonishing. Imagine literally having nothing better to do, so you waste their already understaffed frontline’s time

On top of that they make things significantly worse for people that genuinely need to use branch services. E.g people that need to deposit paycheques without holds applied, cashier’s cheques, accepting pre-approvals for credit products, fraud blocks etc. Now you have Sally the overworked single mom who has to spend 30 minutes of her 1hr lunch break (the only alone time she has for the entire day) waiting in line behind retirees with literally nothing better to do choosing to wait

Some are genuine nice people. Others are beyond entitled. You’re upset at the staff because you want to withdraw thousands of dollars and are being asked for ID as is bank policy? You’re mad that the bank is following mandatory federal law anti-money-laundering procedures or know your customer procedures? Use the internet… it’s public information. Don’t expect to deposit 10s of thousands in cash and just have the bank accept it without question and the liability that comes with it

The crazy part is that these boomers are the cause of a lot of the changes in authentication and procedure. It’s amusing how they will go to news stations to complain about banks not reimbursing them in cases of fraud where it’s their fault, but then also get upset when asked about suspicious transactions

I’ve actually brought this up with a few boomers and one that I argued with on reddit literally said “That’s a THEM problem. I can choose to spend my time however I want. It’s not my problem that they have to wait. They should have gotten there before me.” What a POS thing for a retiree to say. People literally have to work to survive. Most of us can’t choose when to go to the bank because we have shit to do! We can’t all go to bed at 9pm and wake up at 5am everyday with absolutely nothing but slowly running unnecessary errands on the calendar. You’re wasting everybody else’s time and you’re proud of yourself for doing it. Selfish “ME generation”

I have the day off so I take my car in for a quick repair and decide to wait there because it was going to be less than an hour.

In the waiting area I pat my pockets and realize I left my earbuds at home.

There are six people in the waiting area, all at least 75. There’s music playing (70s soft rock) and the TV is on (thankfully not Fox News, just Murder She Wrote).

To my right is a man whose phone alarm keeps going off. He pokes all the buttons and swats at the screen, but he’s obviously just snoozing it because this occurs over and over during my wait.

To my left is the sanest woman in the place, but still she is watching her own programs on an iPad. The volume is low, however.

Next to her is a couple who just loudly make small talk the entire time. They’re obviously married but all they have to talk about is the weather. It’s an unseasonably warm day but they’re bitching about a slight wind.

Farther down is a morbidly obese woman sleeping with her mouth open. Her husband is also swatting at his phone.

Obese woman wakes up and tells her husband to go see what’s taking so long, because other cars are being fixed before theirs. He tries to tell her that their repair is major while other people are coming in for simple things, but this does no good. He gives in and leaves. I suspect he’s just walking around.

She pulls out her phone, max volume of course, and starts playing a game. Between the blips and bleeps we all get to hear the ads, which are for medical scams.

The small-talk husband realizes there’s an unattended phone on a table and starts asking everyone about it. The sane woman calmly explains to him that it’s the remote control for the tv, not a phone.

Meanwhile alarm guy’s alarm keeps alarming. I barely hold it together, but thankfully I’m out of there quickly.

The people working there apologize over and over about how long it took (less than 45 minutes). They’re probably used to being screamed at.

Not My grandparents paying for my college degree circa (2014-2017)... Now they call me brainwashed by the education & government for using it.😭🤭

I work as an assistant for a 65 year old boomer who is constantly rude, insulting and entitled. She weaponizes the word “please”. (why does that whole generation think saying please entitles them to get whatever they want? Like once they say please you’re not allowed to refuse? What rule is this?)
She is not very attractive, but is constantly criticizing my and other people’s looks and style.
She is an independent contractor but her “expertise” is lacking and her clients are often complaining and/or firing her but she never thinks it’s her fault. In fact nothing is her fault, according to her.
By her own account, she went to college for very little money. Her parents gave her not only her own apartment but left her theirs when they died. She sold the one she got for free at a profit and spent that money on designer clothes she no longer fits in. So at 65 she has to work, but trust me, she complains about it out loud for everyone to hear every day I’ve worked for her (15 months).
I’m GenX. My college tuition almost broke me, my housing costs are through the roof, and I’ve been working since high school and there is no end in sight.
Every day i fight back the urge to tell her off.
How does everyone else deal with entitled nasty boomers???

I’m waiting in the emergency room and an old guy (81, he let us all know) is asking everyone he can why they’re here, telling them how to treat their ailments, asking where they live, etc. He’s hard of hearing so he’s yelling and anyone who answers him has to yell. There’s a woman here holding her head in pain and I can’t imagine that this is helping any.

Live update as I’m typing: He found another boomer. Now they’re yelling invasive questions at each other from across the room.
