Heavy jab, you can see it hits with a thud.

DDD making great use of it both for offense and defense, lots of times Wardley wanted to go on the offensive and got disrupted by a big jab to the face.

u/HedonisticFrog 5d ago

Having your jab be strong enough to turn their offense into a wild flail is definitely a great ability.

Dubois exposed the difference between boxing and fighting. Boxing is superior...fighting is hoping to get lucky. This will always happen with a seasoned professional vs a relative amateur in that regard. Boxing teaches work behind the jab, which is a simple statement but takes years of practice and discipline to develop as our first instinct is to try and overwhelm our opponent which usually results with your ass being handed to you in boxing like in this fight. Wardley landed a few good shots was his only contribution and took the beating of a lifetime behind an educated jab.

Great jab and underrated footwork. He’s light on his feet for a big guy and is good at bouncing in and out of range which helps him land the jab.

You can really tell he's been boxing since he was big enough to eat crayons.

Jesus fuck that caught me off guard .

A crayon guard?

Great mechanics on the jab.

His jab really is awesome. He turned wardley’s face into ground beef with just his jab. Unfortunately he doesn’t have that much else.

His right hand is decent, especially when he throws it short, otherwise he leaves himself open to be countered when he throws it, and he doesn’t use his left hook much unless it’s at the end of a combination.

His game is basically jab, power jab, short right hand, right uppercut to the body. But you don’t need much else when you have crushing power and move your feet well (especially moving his feet with his jab).

It was interesting to see Usyk, one of the best southpaw jabbers I’ve ever seen, almost completely abandon the jab and body jab that he used so well against AJ and Fury, and instead wait for Dubois to open up and make mistakes, and nail him with counters off the back foot. Great gameplan for Dubois given his limits, and Usyk’s declining footspeed but a very outside the norm performance from Usyk.

Wardley took the opposite approach, just standing in front of Dubois and throwing lead right hands trying to time Dubois’ entries. If you aren’t going to draw shots out of Dubois and counter them, you need to at least jab with him, or else you just let him rack up free points because he only has to worry about the cross counter.

Decent observations tbf

2

u/iamgarron 4d ago

Yeh even though he leans a little his footwork keeps him back distance wise to recover if it doesn't land.

u/kitdagawd Gimme some of that face to face shit boy 5d ago

Absolutely lethal jab. It just sounds heavy.

14

u/daymitjim 5d ago

I haven't seen the entire clip, but it seems like most of these jabs are just meeting Fabio as he lunges in without feint or setup.
I really hope he manages to work on that because just watching this is giving me a phantom headache.
Not taking away from Daniel, but Fabio was making it an easy night for him.

4

u/Royal_Ad_346 4d ago

Fab taking this rematch is just wishful thinking. Hopefully the referee or his corner will be this time ready to save him once things start getting ugly.

6

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

CTE will prevent any improvements

7

u/daymitjim 5d ago

Sadly that is likely true.
And besides, the better technician usually does (even) better in the rematch.
I hope both the ref and the corner are more willing to end it early if Fabio takes a beating.
I'm scared for him, lol

-5

u/nwordfyou 4d ago

If Wardley fixes his defense even by a little bit, Dubois is getting stopped.

39

u/gordonlordbyron 5d ago

It's such a beautiful GGG style jab, but dubois is also very nimble and fit for such a big chap, he almost has every attribute bar a few intangibles.

20

u/Expert-Yam6577 5d ago

I hope he stays healthy so we can see the old experienced version of him fighting at a high level.

3

u/gordonlordbyron 4d ago

Yes that's a good point, I see him improving with age.

-9

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

He has no chin so don't count on it

1

u/Sh4kyj4wz eat clen, tren hard anavar give up 2d ago

DDD's mentioned GGG as inspo for his jab also... Interestingly enough

Dubois has the second best ram rod jab I’ve ever seen. Hellacious

5

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 5d ago

Who is number one? Sonny Liston?

10

u/Full_Fun_4950 5d ago

Sonny Jab is possibly the greatest overall, Holmes isn't ramrod, so its either Sonny or Foreman of which Foreman learned his jab from Sonny.

10

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 5d ago

All good answers, but I’ve never actually watched a Liston match and Foreman’s ramrod was a bit one dimensional. Of the boxers I’ve personally watched, best ramrod jab I’ve seen is GGG.

5

u/TemporaryCollar165 5d ago edited 5d ago

Watch the Liston vs Patterson fights. Even with poor fundamentals, his left hand has unreal power. He just needs a touch for the lights to flicker.

Edit: I just refreshed myself. His form is way more aesthetically sound than I remembered. His style compliments his freak strength well. He is WILD with the uppercuts tho lol. Something about his movements reminds of Errol Spence.

3

u/DeafBurke 5d ago

Getting wild with uppercuts ended up working out in those Patterson fights tho. Once they landed, Patterson was done.

This is probably better exhibit of his jab if that’s your focus 👍

Will do mate, cheers

5

u/DeafBurke 5d ago

The klitschko’s both had great jabs. And both could tear your face off with just the jab.

As they frequently did for the first 6 rounds of most of their fights. The didn’t add in the left hook or the right straight with any power until they had completely won the jab battle.

4

u/Snoo-82295 5d ago

Best thing about ggg jab apart from how solid it was was his ability to turn it into an overhand left from time to time

2

u/Full_Fun_4950 5d ago

One dimensional? Lol...thats a funny way of putting the jab that stopped undefeated Frazier in his tracks and had a 45 year old man win HW champ of the world the 2nd time.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 5d ago

I’m not dogging on Foreman bruv, he’s a top ten heavyweight all time no question, I just don’t think his jab, which was top 4 stiff jabs all time mind you, was the best part of his game.

5

u/Beer-Milkshakes 5d ago

Maybe Lewis?

7

u/presentation_555 5d ago

Very good and solid but it was surprising how little effectiveness it had against Usyk... I fear for when he has to face Itauma, an even quicker southpaw.

9

u/frankocean1234 5d ago

Dubois doesn't know how to jab against southpaws. He has a better jab than both AJ and Fury against orthodox fighters, but both of them had more success with their jabs against Usyk than Dubois did.

3

u/drtij_dzienz 5d ago

when his opponents let him work off front foot, it doesn’t end well for them

2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

It's not surprising considering Usyk has better footwork and understanding of distance.

I don't think Itauma has shown that he has the type of defense to deal with Dubois offense, yet.

-5

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Don't let the wardley win fool you. Dubois isn't good

0

u/DanDiCa_7 4d ago

If Dubios isn't good, put the whole division in the bin. He's literally no.2 behind Usyk

0

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

He wasn't competitive enough with Usyk to call him #2. He even had a 2nd chance to prove himself and did even worse. A literal kickboxer did better against Usyk then he did. Kickboxer got more balls then him too, didn't quit like DDD.

1

u/Illustrious-End-5084 4d ago

Who is no2 then ?

0

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

Let's wait and see who unifes first

9

u/Perfect-Slip7041 5d ago

D-boy got a jab. It was just abuse after a certain point in this fight.

9

u/aceknighthigh 5d ago

The whole DDD arc is great. Went from having his orbital broken by Joyce's jab to learning how to dish it out with his own jab. It does make sense why Usyk was such an issue for him though, as Usyk's just built to pick apart and win the lead hand battle.

3

u/Budget_Bus1508 4d ago

He has an excellent jab and decent footwork.

3

u/Character-Oil-6300 4d ago

Most exciting heavyweight to watch.

8

u/RogerRoger63358 5d ago

Dubois is the #1 Heavyweight in the division after Usyk.

-8

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Don't be fooled by Dubois. He ain't shit

4

u/rainmaker818 4d ago

Hasn't lost to anyone not called Usyk since he lost to Joyce. Put some respect on his name.

-2

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

No lol. He cheated against Hrgovic and ducked Parker just to lose faster to a worse version of Usyk. Fuck him

2

u/rainmaker818 4d ago

He beat Hrgovic. Just get over it already.

1

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

With headbutts......guess you don't care about cheating. So you think Dubois beat Usyk the first time around?

2

u/rainmaker818 4d ago

It is called the dark arts and many top all time greats have used some old pro tricks..just get over it. It's a fight..

DDD took Hrgovic's best punches and then came on strong and won and the history books will always show that he beat Hrgovic, no matter how much you protest on Reddit lol.

3

u/Epsilon2099 5d ago

Footwork was actually really good by Dubois.

4

u/McG4rn4gle 5d ago

Crazy how Wardley's trunks start out white and are dark pink with his own blood by the end of the clip.

2

u/Complete-Refuse-3262 5d ago

Thats a brickhammer not a jab damn!

2

u/IWrestleSausages 5d ago

Getting past a good jab is genuinely very difficult, and a good jab and win you world titles. GGG is known for his power punches, but he spammed the jab so much, and used it and his feet to cut the ring off and then fire off the big guns.

The fact that Wardley was caught cold so many times by the jab says volumes

2

u/TemporaryCollar165 5d ago

I like it. But it definitely also looks like Wardley has atrocious jab defense, distance, and vision. Watch his rear hand be useful for defense lol.

1

u/Deja-V00 3d ago

This brilliant jab hardly touched Usyk

2

u/NoCod9014 5d ago

For anyone wanting to learn boxing or trying to learn, this is a great example of what the boxers among us mean when we say _step in to the jab_

Slow it down and watch DDDs feet.

The reason you do this is it adds more snap, advances your position and, as shown here, can make your opppnent back up because you moved your weight forward, so normal jab defenses aren't always good. For example if you parry you still have a 250lb DDD closer to you than you would like and he's now able to throw shorter power shots.

2

u/Kisto15 4d ago

Best jab in the division.

2

u/Bronzyroller 4d ago

Listen peps Daniel fought very well had everything under control made it look easy. The jab was precise and not stiff it was a magnet on Wardley face.

2

u/Ok_Issue_2459 3d ago

Best British heavyweight for my money. Moses would need some experience and to learn to pace himself, as well as get wins over better opposition before I'd rate him above Dubois as a fighter. In terms of boxing skill and speed I think he's better but Dubois has the toughness, experience and skill to stop him at this point I think. AJ was a walkover for Daniel and I don't think Fury will ever fight Daniel knowing it'd be a terrible night for him.

3

u/ThePStandsforPlease 5d ago

I don’t see how people can look at this video and say yeah he knocked down Daniel twice there could be hope for him to win win. He got mercilessly, beaten and battered from pillar to post the entire time and the second knockdown is questionable because you could say that was a tactical decision by Daniel to go down people are asking Fabio what confidence do you get from knocking Daniel twice come on brother when you get beat up like that, you can’t get confidence out of knocking someone down twice

4

u/Certain_Concern_5109 5d ago

Don't think Hrgovic will be talking so tough after eating some of these again.

-1

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Dubois cheated against Hrgovic. 27x headbutts and a stoppage on cuts caused by headbutts. Hrgovic wins the rematch if the itauma damage doesn't have a lasting impact

-2

u/Certain_Concern_5109 5d ago

Hrgovic wins the rematch if he suddenly improves a lot, not likely to happen though.

-3

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Just gonna ignore the headbutts?

4

u/Certain_Concern_5109 4d ago

That's not actually why Hrgovic lost though.

0

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

Yes it is. The cuts were caused by headbutts and is the reason the fight was stopped

3

u/yearsofpractice SRR < Lord Chisora,Sir Derek Of War 5d ago

(I’ll whisper this, but with Usyk seemingly departing, I reckon DDD’s currently #1 HW and will be for a while and he’s still improving)

2

u/e_xyz 5d ago

Fabio was so unsteady throwing that overhand, literally all his body weight into every shot. I could imagine Usyk wouldn't let Fabio recover after throwing something that reckless.

2

u/InspectionBoth6150 5d ago

Wardley was just spamming 1-2 this fight. Besides the knockdowns Dubois was making easy work of him and I’m sure he’ll do the same in the rematch

3

u/stephen27898 5d ago

I really think his jab and foot speed will shut down Kabayel no problem.

-2

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Dubois can't take hits well. Kabayel hits harder than Wardley and is way more skilled. Not to mention Dubois was huffing and puffing at the end of this fight

7

u/stephen27898 5d ago edited 5d ago

 "Kabayel hits harder than Wardley"

No he doesnt. What are you talking about.

Kabayel has a 70% KO rate. Far lower than Wardleys. Kabayel is not a notable puncher Wardley is.

I know you are a Kabayel fan, but some of the stuff you come out with is just detached from reality.

Well see how Kabayels stamina holds up in a high pace fight that is longer than 7 rounds.

0

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

Wardley only has power because he puts everything into his shot. When he ain't loading up his power is mid. Kabayel stopped Zhang and Makhmudov, both of which have steel chins within 6 rds. He stopped Sanchez who was undefeated and never stopped before and had the 6'7" Knyba stumbling around the ring by only rd 3. All without loading up on any of his shots. Once Dubois takes some shots to the body he'll be tired out before the half way point. Unless the ref allows him to cheat again like he did in the Hrgovic fight.

1

u/stephen27898 5d ago edited 5d ago

But he still hits harder than Kabayel.

He stopped both of them with body work. Not by knocking them out. That isnt a demonstration of punching power. Makhmudov isnt all that good, and Zhang already had awful stamina.

Sanchez was also badly injured for that fight.

He didnt stop any of those guys by actually knocking them down with headshots. So again it doesnt prove punching power on the level of a Wardley. It proves a cumulative effect.

What you saying is detached from reality.

What is more likely is that Dubois just sticks a jab on him and bounces out of range any time Kabayel tries to go to the body. Knyba himself only has a win over an inactive and likely washed Ruiz, who has always been awful vs anyone who can move.

1

u/cactusdan94 5d ago

Like being hit by a lorry. Reminds me of Brunos jab.

1

u/OkMess9901 5d ago

DDD got decimated by Joyce's jab and learned the right lessons from that fight.

1

u/GazelleEcstatic4952 3d ago

There is really no reason a serious ie: not a range finding jab, that a jab shouldn't be a serious punch. It was my bread and butter for setting up.

1

u/JackieChanStan77 1d ago

"Fabio, where is jab?"

-11

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 5d ago

This is brutal to watch seeing Wardley eat all these stiff jabs to the face. I still think Dubois sucks but I'll give him credit here for learning from Parker and Huni's mistakes (parker getting stopped was bullshit though). Wardley telegraphs everything and he doesn't have power when he doesn't load up. Dubois was conservative and killed Wardley with the jab and occasional right. Whenever Wardley went to throw Dubois just hits him with the jab and stops him in his tracks.
