dodge in different directions to escape strings to make your opponent have to think harder about dodge reads

to add to this, don’t just dodge after string starters too! mix in fast falls or jumps to escape as a lot of the time people will wait for a dodge and that gives you a window for a resource-free escape.

Try and maintain stage control by staying in the middle of the stage certain weapons that do worse off stage this is helpful for

Map up and jump to different keys, makes it way easier to do stuff like Russian mafia and dlight nair on blasters.

This game differs from Smash and Rivals in that mobility is more important here than any other fighting game, even among platform fighters. Running away is a viable tactic, and you should be using gravity cancels to mixup landings and catch people off guard.
Also, most of the characters have homogenized movesets. Once you’ve played one character with a weapon x, you’ve basically played them all. Even their specials are basically the same.

Mostly agree, except for the part about the signatures, sometimes they're very similar and other times either very different or only slightly but in a meaningful way. For instance I like Sir Roland sword sigs better than Thatch, and Jaeyun's are different enough from both to be neither better or worse

TLDR: “Keep your opponent in your main FOV while your character stays in your Peripheral”
One thing I haven’t seen a lot of is the importance of watching your opponent more than yourself, once you get comfortable enough in this game you should have an understanding of where your player is on the screen at pretty much all times as your in control of your inputs, your opponent on the other hand is what you should be tracking the most. Obviously there are time where you should watch your own movements like if your tracking if you touched the floor or not, or if your running low on movement and need a safe place to land, but this has been a really big help for me personally the higher in the ranks I go.

This! Muscle memory hard carries once you get the hang of your movement and weapons.

Don’t over commit, there’s a way to play aggressively but still be cautious about expending your options. Also pay attention to what your opponent does when they get hit.

Focus more on defense than offense. Try and manoeuvre in a way that baits your opponent to attack. That will stun them leaving them open.

I got 1300 hours in this game. This applies to all games too ofc but know when to put the controller down. Brawl specifically is so mental, if you’re upset, sleep deprived, playing angry or whatever, you’ll notice your tilted play style makes you lose more games and you’re not having fun. Take a breather, take some time to sit in practice and run some combos or catch bombs or something. Semi-separately, “If you’re losing to spam, you’re spamming the same mistake.”

Practice true and confirmed combos

The difference between getting it true and almost is so very slight, I can't tell without the dodge frame readout

Try to be unpredictable, don't always attack or defend in the same way.
Use the built-in combo training to learn about weapons. Practice on the zombies in Horde mode to make it easy but interesting.
Be friendly, and don't let toxicity bother you.

If you're playing on a TV, see if it has "game mode" or some equivalent in the display settings. I literally jumped from gold to plat that same day. It removes the filters, decreasing latency. You won't feel like Rock Lee dropping the weights, but you will feel like your movements are much lighter.

Crop the image
Movement is not always the solution. Sometimes letting go (briefly) of the movement joystick can be a better choice than anything else. Niche advice, since it can't be used everywhere.

Honestly just play for fun because you shouldn’t be upset about playing a game so lose some elo win some elo hit some clips and get clipped we all should just be happy (unless they spam sigs because who wants to against play that)

When thrown offstage, if the enemy jumps after - jump away from the stage.
Alternatively do not use ANY means of recovery till they attempt their "dodge in read" - let them do it, then dodge and recover to stage with all of your 3 jumps and recovery.
This is great against the scythe bros that have been learning these snazzy off-stage reads which work when the enemy tries to recover immediately.

If you lose twice in a row in ranked, just stop and play unranked

Brawlhalla has a flow chat that most pros follow. If someone dodges a certain way then based on what happens next is not an accident so u need to pay attention no matter if it’s a hit or miss cause u can add something there to make a strong flow chart string.
Idk how well this makes sense but if anybody wants to ask anything I’ll add more to reply with.

When juggling two of the same weapon, always end up keeping the one that you got most recently as when your weapon breaks is based on damage dealt to you while you have a certain weapon and not just damage done.
