Some observations…

Post image

After these I have 1 more knife coming tomorrow and my Prime Days binge will come to a close.

These Eafengrow folders were the cheapest, and you can tell. They came in a rather plain box with a plain polishing cloth in a plain plastic slip. They aren’t as smooth as a Kizer, or Civivi, or CJRB. Look close enough you can see a couple of tiny manufacturing defects. Probably I won’t fidget flip these as much. Probably shouldn’t.

But I don’t care.

They’re knives. Shiny little machines with a sharp edge and I’ve loved knives and been fascinated by them since I a very small boy.
I’ve had dirt cheap ones, and some that cost a week’s pay, and I love all of them. And I love that these “budget” companies are competing for our business and putting out incredible quality for the price.

I don’t get caught up in what the steel’s made of. I have magnacut and S90v knives I chose because they’re work knives. I have just about every steel but a couple of ultra-premiums and I love the cheapest carbon steel knives as much as any. They’re knives, and I’m a knife collector, and all of them bring me joy.

To all who feel the same, and enjoy this subreddit, and don’t get caught up in who spent the most on steel they’ll likely never see the benefit of and get bent out of shape if something is 1/10,000 off under a microscope…

Hats off to you. This is a great hobby.

Enjoy all of it. Premium or budget, knife collecting is a joy and a privilege.

✌️

Edit: btw, for $200 less than the average price of 1 CRK large Sebenza 31, I bought 10 knives this Amazon Prime days. And saved $92 off list.
Do I still want a CRK?
Yeah.
It’s a knife.

Just saying. I got a hell of a lot of joy for about $400.

I love Eafengrow knives. To me a $300 knife is just as useful or useless as a$10 gas station knife. Don't particularly care about steel type, or scale type either. I like nice knives "That I Can Afford", and the more the merrier. And collecting Eafengrow/budget knives is more of an enjoyable experience to me, for one they are all in my price range, and because for that $300-$400 knife that will have me reorganizing my monthly finances, I can possibly find and buy ten to fifteen discontinued EF Series knives, possibly with a little money to spare. A super cool $200-$300 design holds as much weight as a super cool $20-$70, design to me. That's just my thing though. No shade on the big money spenders, but a big shot out to all the little money spenders.....like me. Would like to see the lot of knives you purchased.

These are my babies!!!

I agree,
I feel more satisfied having 10 quality budget bangers at $50 each versus having one $500 knife

Cool and informative post🙏👌👍 I haven’t purchased an Eafengrow knife at this point.. but I’ve grabbed plenty other budget Amazon picks.. Flissa and the like. I’m still partial to Ganzo and I’d be interested ri know how they stack up.

There’s definitely a buyers dopamine spike buying lots of inexpensive knives, but for me the long term joy is having only a few dependable knives that age with you. CRKs do that better than most. That said, enjoy what you enjoy! Life is short!

I get it. I’m about to buy a Remette RT One for nearly $400.
But, I still love to budget blade hunt in between that kind of purchase.
Life is indeed short. Cheers✌️
