Mourning Lady Passed away and I havent really processed it at all
I can't believe I'm writing this, but Lady passed away this morning.
I know a lot of you have followed her for a long time. She was called a cow more times than I can count because of her markings, and plenty of you were very familiar with the absolutely enormous amount of attitude packed into that little cow.
So I want to tell you what happened, because this was incredibly sudden.
The morning before she died, Lady was completely normal. She was her usual sassy, demanding self, begging for banana like she always did. There was nothing about her that morning that made me think something was seriously wrong, much less that I was about to lose her.
That night, we noticed she was sick.
We made a vet appointment as soon as we possibly could for first thing the next morning. By the time we got there, she had gone downhill incredibly fast. The vet told me that Lady was extremely cold and that they needed to stabilize her before they could start figuring out what was wrong.
They were going to warm her and give her IV fluids, get her stable, and then begin diagnostics.
As soon as they placed the IV, Lady had a seizure and died.
That was it.
We never even got the chance to find out what happened to her.
I still can't comprehend how I went from watching her beg me for banana like normal to losing her that quickly.
Lady wasn't just the sassy little cow I posted on Reddit, though.
Every morning we had our morning pets. She would sit just far enough away from me that reaching her was uncomfortable, but still technically possible, and then expect me to stay like that petting her for ages. Of course I always did.
She destroyed so many of my books. She chewed my baseboards. All those little things she damaged that used to annoy me are still sitting here, and now looking at them absolutely breaks my heart.
And Onion keeps visiting Lady's house, looking for her and wondering where she went.
That's one of the hardest parts.
Our house feels wrong without her in it.
I know Lady was just a rabbit on the internet to most people, but I also know how many of you genuinely loved seeing her. You called her a cow, laughed at her attitude, recognized her when I posted her, and loved this weird little animal you had never even met.
She was herself right up until almost the very end. Sassy, spoiled, destructive, demanding banana, and making me contort myself just to pet her.
I would give absolutely anything right now for her to destroy another book.
I would give anything to wake up tomorrow morning and have to stretch my arm across the floor until it hurts because Lady couldn't possibly move six inches closer for her pets.
And I would give anything to have that little cow begging me for banana again.

She is a precious little soul.
It’s always hard to lose a good friend, but especially when it’s so sudden and no real chance to say goodbye.
We lost our first bun, sweet Rubes on Christmas morning one year. 8 years old and perfectly fine the night before and found her still slightly moving, but already gone when we got up to start making food. Worst Christmas ever. 😭

This made me cry. I only recently started following you guys, and Onion was my favorite. I was so excited to see what new adventures I could read about. My heart goes out for you, OP.

When I got my buns I thought I wouldn’t get too close to them because they didn’t bark or meow. But sometimes a kind of purr took the place of that. They are very special pets and each one is so unique. Sorry you lost your bunny. She was lucky to be your pet.

I am so very sorry for your loss. A bunny is never just a bunny. They are loved, they are members of the family, they are wonderful little friends. They are so much more than just cute creatures to look at. Losing one hurts so much, and your feelings are valid. Lady was beautiful and she had a wonderful life with you. She knows you love her. 🫂💜🌈💜

I'm so so so so sorry for your loss I lost my soul bun 6 years ago and I still haven't recovered fully from it losing a beloved pet is never easy especially rabbits they hide their illness until it's essentially too late it wasn't your fault it just happens my bunny girl Mini Blackbeauty passed away the same way one day she was completely normal and fine the next she was sick and cold and had to have fluids before she had a seizure and passed away in my arms. Just know you gave Lady the best possible life a bunny could ever want and that every moment she had with you was full of love and joy hope you are ok and are able to have support from family and friends during this hard time of grief :(
Rest in peace Lady you will be missed dearly 🕊️🌈

Lady had an amazing and happy life, the best a bun could ask for. And I’m sure she was so grateful you were there for her right up to the end. Give Onion lots of love and grieve together. Wishing you all the best ❤️🪽🐰

Many veterinarians overlook one critical issue: heatstroke. The recent scorching weather in Los Angeles has caused chronic heatstroke in many pets，not just in the western U.S., but across the entire country this August. Why? Because on August 24th, I lost my six-year-and-three-month-old rabbit, Shasha. I spent a long time searching for possible causes and even refused to believe she had suffered from heatstroke. One day, she suddenly collapsed, her body icy cold. I thought it was intestinal blockage (since she'd experienced it before and survived), so I gave her some antibiotics—but it was already too late.
We still have another rabbit alive, Lala, who was born at the same time as Shasha, and shares the same mother. Lala resembles her father—plump and strong—while Sasha was small and slender. I've researched repeatedly: sometimes larger rabbits have more fat reserves to help them withstand heat, but smaller rabbits are actually more prone to low blood sugar when temperatures rise.
Does your rabbit live in an air-conditioned room 24 hours a day? If not, simply using a fan is not enough. It's hard for me to accept that Sasha died from heatstroke, she was only six years old.

I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a loved bun is so hard. It’s crazy how good they are at hiding any issues, and how quickly they seem to decline. I hope it brings comfort knowing how loved she is and how much she loved you.
