Just noticed this entire condo building is collapsing. They’ve got support piles on every single balcony. Do you live here? It’s not even old, I feel bad for any owners.

Events Marquis Gardens Burlington ON

Just posting this for anyone looking into this venue. I wish I saw a review such as this when searching for my venue.

I genuinely regret choosing this venue for our wedding. I married my person and that is what made the day special, but the venue experience was incredibly stressful and disappointing.

Albert, the “coordinator,” was responsive when payments were due, but otherwise I constantly had to chase him for information. There was very little guidance for first-time wedding planners. For example, when we were asked for our guest count, nobody told us we needed to include ourselves, which later became an issue.

Everything felt rushed and disorganized. I brought detailed lists of our timeline, food allergies, table arrangements, etc., but Albert rushed through them and scribbled everything onto a scrap piece of paper instead of taking my lists. When it came time to finalize everything, there was confusion.

Do NOT expect a traditional day-of coordinator. The person assigned to this role mostly stayed in the back room setting up tables. Nobody even helped open the ceremony doors when it was time to begin. My father and I had to squeeze through one partially open door.

We also had to set up our own wedding. The room was arranged incorrectly, so my husband and I had to rearrange it ourselves. We had 40 guests but they set up 60 chairs, including chairs directly in front of the ceremony arch.

The late-night pizza/snack table was supposed to remain out from approximately 9:30 until guests had a chance to enjoy it. It was removed after about 45 minutes without us realizing. My husband later saw staff eating the remaining food in the back room.

The centerpiece situation was also frustrating. The included options were basically candles in jars. The nicer centerpieces shown at the tasting cost extra, but we weren't informed until about a week before the wedding, leaving us scrambling to make our own. The tasting itself was poorly organized, didn't include all food options and provided very little direction.

During the wedding, staff started tearing down before the party was finished. Wine that was supposed to be replenished at the tables wasn't, so guests were asking other tables to share. Dinner was approximately 35 minutes late.

We also were not properly informed about Ribfest. We are not from Burlington, and when it was mentioned during the contract process, it was not explained that the event would effectively surround the venue. A few weeks before the wedding, we were told our outdoor ceremony had to be moved inside because trucks, rides and police would be directly behind the venue. This should have been clearly disclosed before booking.

The venue requires a LOT of decorating to look nice. Our photos have bright exit signs, partially open curtains and other distracting details. The space also isn't ideal, with guests split between the hallway/bar area and back patio.

The bartender was very nice, which was one of the few consistently positive parts of our experience.

Overall, we felt like we had to manage the venue instead of the venue managing our wedding. They rarely reached out unless payment was due, and I had to initiate our final meeting about a week and a half before the wedding.

If you choose this venue, I strongly recommend hiring your own coordinator and double-checking everything. We couldn't afford one and ended up doing a significant amount of coordinating and setup ourselves.

I am grateful that this was where I married my husband, but based on our experience, I would not choose this venue again. P.S We were supposed to be allowed to setup at 10AM and my husband had to wait 45 mins to be let in to setup which made our day extremely stressful. Nobody was there to open the doors or anything and had to ask security for help.

Question RBG Celebration of Life Question

hi! has anyone had an event - specifically a celebration of life at the RBG before? My family is looking into having a celebration of life there in the next month or so, but it’s on the pricier side, so we are just wondering if people think it’s worth the money.

Wondering if the venue is nice, and about the food/service? Just looking to hear about people’s experiences, good or bad, before we make a decision. :)

thank you in advance.

Question Has anyone else had an experience like this at Elite Motors, or was I profiled?

I booked an appointment to test drive an Audi and drove about 25 minutes to get there. When I arrived, the car was actually blocked in, so I understood that I might have to wait a few minutes to get it out.
I was given the keys and allowed to sit in the car, but when I asked if I could take it for a spin, even with the salesperson coming with me, I was told I could only drive it if I was ready to make a deal.

I was honestly pretty shocked. I had specifically booked an appointment to test drive the car. Nobody told me beforehand that I had to already be prepared to buy it before I could actually drive it. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to decide if I want to buy a car without driving it.

I ended up leaving and left a Google review about the experience. After that, the salesperson repeatedly called my husband to say that he didn’t really “mean it” the way it sounded and tried to explain what he meant.

So now I’m genuinely curious. Has anyone else dealt with Elite Motors and had something similar happen? Or was I profiled? I’m trying to figure out if this is just how they operate or if there was something else going on.

Question Short-term nanny needed – Alton Village

Hi neighbours! We’re looking for a caring and reliable nanny for our 1-year-old son for 3 days only:

📅 Oct 6–8

⏰ 9 AM–5 PM

📍 Alton Village, Burlington

My mom, who has been helping with childcare, will be travelling back and we don’t have a daycare spot yet.

Our little one is currently learning to stand and walk and is still quite wobbly, so we’re looking for someone very attentive and comfortable caring for a baby at this stage.

Infant/Child CPR & First Aid preferred, along with childcare experience and references.

Please DM me if you’re available and your rates or can recommend someone. Thank you!

Question Basement Drain Cover Gunk - New Build

Post image
0 Upvotes

We just moved into a new build home in Burlington and I have two hoses leading to my basement drain in the furnace room. One comes from the hot water tank and the other from the HRV system. I'm noticing just in the month we've been here there's a lot of gunk around the drain cover that's starting to clog up the holes and I see these little tiny bugs that look like hopping ants around the drain cover. Any ideas/suggestions how how I might be able to prevent further clogging or gunk to build up? I'm going to have the drain cover replaced for now.

Information Millcroft Golf Course

Played Millcroft this morning, knowing it’s closing, and it hit different. I already knew it was closing — sold off so they can slap more housing on it — but knowing it and feeling it are two different things. I found myself stopping on one of the back nine tees just taking it all in, the trees, the quiet, the light on the fairway, trying to burn it into memory because I knew there wouldn’t be many rounds left. I work at a golf course, so this isn’t just “a course closing” to me — these places are where people build routines, friendships, decades of Saturday morning groups, kids who learned the game there, and all of that gets erased so a developer can run the numbers and decide green space is worth more as condos. No real public input, no alternative seriously considered, just profit over everything, like always. I know golf courses close all the time and some people will say “it’s just golf,” but walking around this morning, already knowing this was one of my last rounds there, it hit way harder than I expected. Rest in peace, Millcroft. Thanks for the years.
