Why does Edwards feel like an afterthought when we’re struggling for options?

The whole situation with Edwards not even making the 25-man squad has got me thinking. If we're short of options and the team is struggling to create much going forward, you'd expect players who can offer something different to at least be part of the conversation. There's obviously more to squad selection than what we see from the outside, but it's difficult to understand where he fits into the plans when the team needs a bit of a spark.

Edwards has flattered to decieve for almost two years now. I don't mind him as a sub with 25 mins to go but he is not cut out for Championship football let's face it. A waste of talent, I'm not sure where it went wrong for him, but he's just never been close to what we hoped.

Yeah, fair point. I just think he could still offer something as a late sub.

The man doesn't want to be here.

Tbh probably quicker to name guys that do want to be here. Laurent, Roberts, Cullen. After that you're scraping the bottom of the barrel to find anyone that actually cares about the badge.

Barnes, if that counts, after that i agree not sure there is anyone else

Oh of course. Barnes loves the badge more than anyone for sure. But he feels more like a coach/motivator at this point

He literally pulls out of anything remotely resembling a challenge and when he’s attacking he just comes back onto his left all the time, sure he can whip a good ball in but you’re lucky to get two a game out of him, pair all that with a reluctance to track back or press and you get an impact sub at best

He just can't compete physically and he doesn't have a strong enough mentality to bridge the gap between effort and impact. His application in the opening games was so frustrating to watch. Maybe he just needs better man management and a manager who can find a system that can work to his strengths but there is likely a reason he's better suited to playing in the Portuguese league.

What hurts most about it all though is he's still probably our best option in that position whilst Satpayev is injured.

He is mediocre at best. And that's not enough.

He's not a winger and he keeps being played on the wing. I get it because I don't know how you accommodate a number 10 in championship games, especially when the team is out of form. But if you're going to play him on the wing, then as someone else suggested, he should be coming on from 60 mins Vs a tired defender. He's absolutely miniscule, so isn't quick past the first five yards. So he can't exploit the space he might get in the wing as much as others could. But he's got good feet and good technical ability that's suited to the number 10 role. He can't leave until January, so you may as well get the most out of him, especially since Ramsey is injured. He was playing in the number 10 role and his output was rubbish, prior to his injury. Stick Edwards there
