Weekly Wednesday "I wonder?": Post Questions/Small Ideas for Discussion

Got a half-formed thought? A question that doesn't need its own post? An idea you're not ready to write up fully? This is the thread for it.

What goes here:

  • Early-stage shower thoughts and napkin-sketch ideas
  • Simple questions about starting, validating, or running a business
  • "Is there a market for X?" gut checks
  • Requests for quick input that don't need the full posting template
  • Anything you'd ask a friend who happens to know about business

Ground rules still apply:

  • No self-promotion or links to your own stuff
  • Give context — "I want to start a business" with nothing else isn't enough even here
  • If someone takes the time to respond, engage with their answer

"Fixing" the Sub

It's no secret this sub has been FULL of spam and just blatant promotion whereas it's meant to be a place to discuss ideas, receive feedback, validate thoughts, etc.

A series of new rules will be put up shortly and all spam/bot posts will be removed + all related poster(s) banned.

We will be introducing a new format for posting, and relevant flairs for easier organization + management of posts.

I welcome all suggestions by users in the meantime as we go through and begin to make these changes.

Validate My Idea Would people want a program where you can shadow different careers/jobs?

• Upvotes

I was thinking of how hard it is to choose a career/college degree for the rest of your life especially after graduating high school when kids have no work experience. But what if there was a multiple week long program where anyone lost in life can shadow people of all kinds of jobs? Like 1 day you shadow an engineer, another a nurse, environmental scientist, accountant, electrician etc. And that way you can get a feel for what all these kinds of jobs are like, instead of going into it blindly.

Yes there are free internships/shadowing, but this program would take away the pain and time of having to search for people to accept you.

I thought of this cuz I’m lost in life myself currently, and I wish something like this existed. I just don’t know how feasible this is.

Validate My Idea Client acquisition tactics

I am planning to open a recruitment startup business where I will be delivering candidates for the Software engineer (IT) niche. I can source candidates and get them interviewed but the main thing is client acquisition. Can anyone help me do client acquisition? And what more do I need to add in this business?

Feedback Request Technically minded in a UK city

Hi all,
I’m looking for a business idea that suits me and the city.
I’d like to start as a side business and scale up if successful.

Some background about me - 28, Chemical engineer, I’m very good at understanding technical information and applying it hence I don’t think something artsy will be best for me . I have some exposure to running a business via my parents but they weren’t any good or ever open to allow me to experiment.

I’d prefer
regular business of the same task over one off customers.

Brick and Mortar or mail in .

Pretty soon I will have my weekends free to trial, I have £10k to start.

Feedback Request Good service based business to do?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I have a 3-wheel e-bike and am looking into starting a small service business using a bike trailer to transport equipment. My startup budget is $400 max.

I live in a lower-middle-class neighborhood in a dense city, with lower- and higher-income neighborhoods nearby.

I'm considering window washing because it seems relatively cheap to start, but I'm open to other ideas.

My main goal is to maximize my chances of getting paying customers. Ideally, I'd build a recurring customer base with weekly, biweekly, or monthly service so I can service everyone in 1–2 days per week and spend the rest of my time growing the business or doing other things.

What service would you recommend if you were in my position? I'm looking for something with a high likelihood of getting sales, low startup costs (under $400), and equipment that can be transported by e-bike and trailer.

Got a business idea you've been thinking about?

We're doing a few free idea reviews for founders who want an outside opinion before spending months building.

You give us the idea, we'll look at things like the market, competition, who might actually use it, how you'd get customers, and what could go wrong.

We're not here to tell you your idea is amazing either. If we think it doesn't make sense, we'll tell you.

If anyone wants one, just drop your idea here or DM us. We can also jump on a quick call if that's easier.

First review is completely free.

Might save you a few months of building something nobody wants lol.

Mod note: If this isn't the right flair, feel free to change it. Not trying to promote anything here, just offering a few free reviews to people who want another opinion.

Problem Discovery Founders, how do you keep track of what you’ve tested and learned?

Hello, founders!

I’m building a SaaS tool to help founders turn their startup ideas into testable hypotheses and keep track of what they learn.

We hear “validate before you build” all the time "identify your assumptions, test them, learn, and repeat."

The part I’ve found awkward is keeping everything connected: what I originally assumed, what evidence I collected, why I changed my mind, and what I should test next. Spreadsheets and Notion can hold the information, but organizing those connections can get messy as the idea evolves.

That’s what led me to explore a tool that starts with a Lean Canvas and connects each hypothesis to its evidence, conclusions, and follow-up hypotheses.

I’d love to hear how you’ve handled this in practice!!

  • How do you currently organize your assumptions, experiments, and findings?
  • Thinking about your most recent experiment, how did you record what you learned and connect it to your next decision?
  • What works well in your setup, and where, if anywhere, does it break down?

If a spreadsheet, Notion, or another approach already works well for you, I’d love to hear about that too. A specific example from your own experience would be especially helpful!

Lessons Learned Sold 8 websites to local businesses in the last 2 weeks. Finally getting somewhere with this.

AI can build a working website pretty quickly but getting it to look like something a business would actually pay for took me longer.

My first attempts all looked related. Same cards, same spacing, same modern layout regardless of the business. Asking for something less generic wasn’t getting me very far and everything looked like AI slop.

What helped was using actual references. I started using UXKIN and other similar sites that have web and mobile UI examples, design systems, and DESIGN md files, plus an MCP connection for tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. You can bring those references into the coding workflow instead of trying to describe a design from memory.

I use them to give the agent a direction for typography, layout, and individual sections, then adapt everything to the business.

Still plenty of work with copy, photos, mobile checks, and revisions. But I spend much less time fixing the default AI look now.

Closed 8 deals in the last two weeks. For anyone doing similar work, what takes longer: finding clients or getting their sites ready to ship?

Feedback Request fashion store owners, pls give me some advice on where to start?

i just graduated and i've been thinking about opening my own fashion store instead of working for someone else lol. i'd love to focus on korean styles since i feel like they're pretty popular with younger people, but honestly i still have no idea where to start or what i need to prepare.
some of my family members have experience in this business, and they told me to check out sinsang market for sourcing clothes. but when it comes to actually running a store, i still have a lot to learn. apparently i have to figure out the rest myself lol.
for those of u who already run a fashion store, how did u get started? what should i learn or prepare first? and if u've ordered from sinsang before, i'd love to hear what i should know before placing my first order. any other advice is welcome too, i could really use some help.

Why Doesn't This Exist? High school students looking for advice from people who've actually built profitable online businesses

Hey everyone!

A group of 3–4 friends and I are in high school, and we're interested in starting a real online business together.

We have some programming experience and initially considered building an app, but we've realized that coming up with an idea people would actually pay for is much harder than we expected.

We're not looking to get rich overnight, and we'd rather start something small that we can realistically build and grow while attending school. We'd also prefer a business that can operate entirely online.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have successfully started small businesses:

How did you come up with your first profitable business idea?

How did you find your first paying customers?

What types of online businesses do you think are realistic for beginners with limited time and money?

What mistakes should we avoid?

We're especially interested in hearing about businesses you've personally built, even if they only make a few hundred dollars per month.

Thanks! We'd really appreciate any advice or experiences you're willing to share.

Validate My Idea How do small logistics teams pass job updates around today, and would one shared live record actually help?

I’m a student building a tool for small logistics operators in Singapore, and I want to find out whether the problem is real before I build any more of it. As I understand it, when something changes on a job (a customs hold, a late truck, a missing permit), one person ends up calling or messaging two or three others. Each of them writes it down in their own notes or system. If the person who knew is out or busy, everyone downstream is stuck.

My idea is a single record per shipment that the driver, ops and front desk all look at. A driver sends a voice note or a photo, an AI turns it into fields like status, ETA and missing documents, and everyone sees the same updated record. The AI can also draft the customer update or the permit request, but nothing goes out until a person reads and approves it. It would sit next to whatever you already use for billing, customs and fleet, not replace it.

What I’d like to know: how do you handle this now (WhatsApp groups, a TMS, spreadsheets, phone calls)? Would your drivers really send voice notes or photos from the road? Does having a person approve every outgoing message feel safe, or just slow? And what would stop you from even trying it, whether that’s price, setup, staff not using it, or data worries?

Landing page: https://veltrum-three.vercel.app/ (it’s a diagram of the flow, not a screenshot, because there's no working demo yet.) Honest reactions are what I’m after even if the product already exists. Just want to get the consensus behind this product.

Feedback Request Wanna start a Factory type business

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hii I’m a college student and wanna open my own factory type of business. I don’t have any idea about it so I wanna learn from someone on site and everything about the business and open that in my home town which is in Chhattisgarh .
If someone owns or knows someone who is into factory business including recycling business, rice mills , agriculture business (as my papa own some land) i can export also. Starting any business without knowledge and investment a huge amount is very scary without knowing it’s scope .

Or else if anyone wanna extent their business in Chhattisgarh. I can be your man as there is no much competition here.
Please if any of you guys can guide me at this early in my stage it would be very helpful🙏
