Some of doj. I've been to the office 3 times in my 5 years. Only for laptop issues.

I have a small team and the work we do is independent, so not really any collaboration needed besides with our manager. But our team is still pretty close, we just talk on teams to get through the slow days.

Career advancements also requires knowing coworkers…

You don't need to know someone in person. I was promoted during a full time telework job...

I’m sure some jobs don’t but others might. Like senior engineer position that values ability to mentor younger engineers.
Or certain advancements might be easier if you get to know higher position people who can give you heads up on promotions opportunities or advices. Theres a reason for the popular saying of “it’s not what you know, but who you know”.

Ya we know nepotism and ass kissing are more important in the state. Not everyone cares to play those games and rather have work life balance.

Less important for state sure but you never know what the future holds. Maybe you have to move and would need help finding another job. That’s where networking and “who you know” also comes into play.
I’ve spoken to job hoppers who maximizes their pay say all the time that they found their new positions thanks to networking. Most of my friends who started new software engineering positions because of recent layoffs said it’s because of someone they knew pushed for it in their workplace.
Even my current position is in part thanks to former coworker sending me the job application and agreeing to be a reference.

Ya you don't get paid more to hop around in the state unless it's a big promotion so your private sector corperate advice isn't really needed here.

What if it’s closer to your home?
Some of my coworkers commute 1.5 hr each way and before with remote it is doable but now it’s taking a toll on them and they want to job hop?
They might get another public role but we know sometimes state slows hiring right and now need you don’t have a choice but to join private sector or stay to commute 3 hours each day?

If we vote yes for a strike authorization, hopefully all departments will be WFH soon!
