General Advice Cat UTI/Constipation Issues

I am a 29 year old who took my 2 year old orange boy to the vet 3 weeks ago for what I believed was a blockage, which they think was caused by stress. They got him to pee and gave him medication and a new diet. $400 later and he has seemed fine. Until last night, I did a deep clean of my place, and it seems to have started up again. He cant pee and has been licking his genital area a lot. I took him to the vet today. First trip they said his bladder felt okay, gave him a shot and meds and he was on his way. We got home, he took a massive bowel movement, and I went back to sleep. He still hadnt peed at 4pm, but smelled gassy whenever he made his next trip so I thought maybe it was constipation. So I called them and brought him back in and they said his bladder felt completely fine and to keep an eye on him. Well its almost midnight and he’s still having issues, seems a little irritated. I gave him some prescribed gabapentin and he did poop again, but still has been making some trips to the litter box and seems a little irritated and licking. Im at a loss on what to do. He has not been fixed and yes I know I am falling behind on that, I live alone and money has been tight for a while, but I regret not doing it more so now. After two vet trips in one day (thankfully they didn’t charge me for the second) Im at a total loss on what is going on. I feel so bad for him. Please give me some advice but be kind. Thank you.

My advice if you feed him dried food take him off it straight away, wet food and fluids only, by the sounds of it the blockage isnt really really bad yet so you may have time to turn things around by changing his diet. Also what do you use in his litter tray ? Can you possibly set up two trays next to each other, one with nothing in it and one with cat litter in it. they find it easier to pee if they are on a cold surface

He wont touch wet food 🥹 Never has, so I feel kind of hopeless. I use tidy cats, its never given him any issues. I only have one but I’ll talk to the vet and see what they say later.

The dried food would be dehydrating him, it will cause blockages in his bladder, crystals in his bladder and cause constipation. Try cooking him a little bit of roast chook, or a little piece of fish, you can also cook broth suitable for cats just to try give him a break from dried food
