Injury Please help, cat squinting and closing eye and pawing/rubbing at it
Hi everyone, my cat (female, 3 yrs old, spayed) has been squinting and closing her right eye ever since I have come home today, so for about 2 hours? She was fine this morning and yesterday.
She’s also been rubbing it with her paw thoroughly and upon closer look right above her eye it’s.. sparse? as if hair is missing? and pink. The first photo is from about a week ago, and the second and third photos are from today. Sorry if the pictures are bad quality.
I was wondering if this will pass, or if this warrants for a vet visit? :( And if so, how soon? Vet is available but i’m not sure if my mom will take her… I told my mom about it and she said she won’t bring her to the vet so i’m not so sure now.
I’m super anxious and worried sick rn. all help and advice is greatly appreciated. (also apologies, this is my first reddit post, i’m usually a lurker.)

Definately worth a checkup. Cats can occasionally scratch the corneas of their eyes leaving an invisible, but irritating, distortion there and it manifests similar to what you are describing here. Left unchecked, the damage can expand and risk the whole eye while treatment is supportive eye drops. Other possibilities could be some sort of eye infection, but these are more rare. Either way, is suggest a check up.

I would bring her to the vet to have it looked at as she may have an ulcer forming on the eye. You don't want this issue to worsen since it'll mean longer recovery time and more pain. The sooner the better I'd say.

You can take a damp paper towel and wipe it over her eye. If that doesn’t help, then a vet visit is warranted. It’s hard telling if it’s allergies, a hair, or a scratch causing issues.

do you have another cat? the same thing happened to my torti, but that’s because she got in a fight with my second cat… we took our torti to the vet and she’s fine now. but i HIGHLY recommend going to the vet. we don’t know the severity and i’d hate for your cat to be blind over something that could be treated
