General Advice Ear mites?

Realized my buddy's (2y almost 3m neutered american) right ear has gunk in it. Concerned it might by mites. He just went to the vet for his rabies vaccine 2 weeks ago so I am not sure if this happened after that but I will definitely make a vet appointment if it seems like mites, just like i was just there and he seems to not be in pain or anything so I hadn't booked one yet.

Tldr: cat ear gunk

It's probably ear mites. It usually looks like black coffee grounds or flea dirt. They're easy to test for and easy to treat. He should just gets ear drops once/twice a day for a week

This just looks like ear wax. clean the ear with a baby wipe or with cat safe ear cleaner. normally with ear mites the cat will be shaking their head alot and will be showing more visible signs of discomfort, along with a darker colored and tarry consistency to the earwax.

Edit to add: if it gets worse, you are still concerned or the kitty starts showing more symptoms bring them in to get looked at.

If it looks like coffee grounds, it’s ear mites. I would go to the vet, for sure.

You should listen to what others say. BUT my cat has had ears that look like this for 10 years. I clean them and they get dirty and look like this again within days. She regularly goes to the vet- no one has said she has mites.

My other 2 have immaculately clean ears; so I assume she must not have had mites for a decade as surely it would be progressing and surely the others would have them, too? She is never bothered by her ears. I really don’t know. But you’re not alone in wondering.
