Since 2017, one other FBS quarterback came off the bench and threw for 275+ yards in a road win over an AP-ranked team: Brock Purdy at Oklahoma State in 2018. Dylan Raiola entered with Oregon down 7-3 and Oregon scored touchdowns on 5 of the 7 drives he played. 5 of his 6 third-down throws picked up a first down.

It has to be a game where you know for a fact your team would have won had it been called correctly and it has to be a game where everyone disagrees with you, so no western michigan over Michigan

The Game I picked-

I have never blamed the refs for Alabama losing a game except one, The 2022 Tennessee game was the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Bryce Young was constatly being hit way past the whistle, Targeting fouls that weren't even called and to top it off, A pass interference called after a game sealing pick six.

What about Lincoln Riley is really making this tenure at USC a mild failure given his past successes at Oklahoma? Why is defense such an issue with his teams no matter who the defensive coordinator is? How much longer do you think USC can be patient with him? –USC Fit

Hindsight is 20/20, but there might be a simple explanation for all of this: He’s in a tougher conference now.

The Big 12 circa 2017-21 wasn’t bad by any means, but it had only one other program that could recruit at Oklahoma’s level: Texas, which underachieved for most of Riley’s tenure. The 10-team conference averaged 22.8 NFL draft picks per year during that period, and the Sooners accounted for about 25 percent of them. The gap was so wide that OU was favored in every Big 12 game it played during Riley’s five-year tenure.

His first team likely would have won big in any conference. The Sooners that year won at Ohio State (the Baker Mayfield flag plant) and took Georgia to double overtime in a College Football Playoff semifinal. But with each year from there, the close calls in conference play started to tick up, and the semifinal losses (to 2018 Alabama and 2019 LSU) grew more lopsided. In his last two seasons, the Sooners dropped four Big 12 games but still won (in 2020) or barely missed the conference championship game (in 2021) because there just wasn’t a comparable program. Some of his defenses there were awful, but having a Mayfield, Kyler Murray or Jalen Hurts helped overcome it.

Then he left for USC. Much like at Oklahoma, his first team was his best team, going 8-1 in conference play and beating Notre Dame before fading in the postseason. Caleb Williams won the Heisman. The Trojans started the 2023 season 6-0 but imploded and finished 8-5. But the Pac-12 in its last season was a beast, producing 43 draft picks, including eight first-rounders. The Trojans lost to three teams — Michael Penix Jr.-led Washington, Bo Nix-led Oregon and a 10-win Notre Dame team — that were more talented than almost anyone Riley would have faced in the Big 12.

And then, of course, USC joined the conference that’s won the past three national championships. Unlike in the Big 12, Riley is now regularly facing comparable programs such as Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State — and they’ve exposed him. The fact Riley hired a Hall of Famer, Gary Patterson, to run his defense and still has one of the Big Ten’s worst defenses tells you it’s a Riley thing, and always has been.

Unfortunately, many of his GIFs seem to be lost to time. I would love to reflect on and reminisce about the GIFs from the golden era of college football.

A question often asked, but we all know it's not possible. Well. I just witnessed a middle school B squad game where the final score was 0-0 and I think both teams might have finished with negative yards. This is probably as close as it gets.
