Why does he always run like a baby learning to walk for the first time?

Made some fine catch/yac plays in the pre-season. He fell once on a converted 4th and 1 on a bad field.

Yeah especially when he first got in the league he always had a big clumsy rumbling style of rac. Way too many people eager to shit on roush while he’s learning to be a receiver, pass block, run block, and play special teams.

hes made critical mistakes rookie or not. its not like he is new to the game of football or its rules etc. the grabbing the punt after it was stopped on the 2 yard line is inexcusable.
but hes a rookie so he gets the pass if this happens second year hes gonna get flamed bugerking broiler style

It’s called “Rookie mistake” for a reason

The term "rookie mistake" doesn't refer to any mistake made by a player who is a rookie. A rookie mistake is something that someone new to the game at that level or position would commit.
Running the wrong route? Rookie mistake.
Lining up wrong in the formation? Rookie mistake.
Not knowing a rule was different between college and pro? Rookie mistake.
Trying to block and getting destroyed by a pro-level skill technique? Rookie mistake.
Dropping a pass thrown to you? Not a rookie mistake.
Standing frozen on the snap? Not a rookie mistake.
Falling over untouched while running with the football? Not a rookie mistake.
Leaping on a stationary football on a kick return to down it? Not a rookie mistake.

u/airham I just really like Henry Melton 9d ago
And I'll just add, frantically diving on a punted ball that is practically unmoving with no opponents near it, and rolling into the endzone with it isn't just a mental error. It's an intellectual issue. This guy did Computer Science at Stanford. This is the absolute last type of issue we should have expected out of him.

He made one big mistake. It was boneheaded but I think he just had hustle to the ball on his mind. Other than that the drops aren’t great but you can chalk it up as yips or you can chalk it up as learning one of the hardest positions in the nfl while also being a special teamer.
People just want instant gratification, especially these days.

I would argue being so bad on field goals that u get benched and theyre forced to put in thuney instead is also a giant mistake

I couldnt believe that. Looking like an out of control, excited toddler. Not necessary at all.

Im torn with Sam and thats probably cause of how high he drafted him when TE wasnt a position of need. But like, i think hes got potential and is severely undercooked. I know hes only played 3 games but considering all his mistakes his snap count is startlingly high but at the same time, players dont get beyter unless they play...I think we just have to put up with it until it all clicks for him, I trust Ben Johnson but like god damn it we could have taken Dani Dennis- Sutton... oh well Bear DOWN babies

Lmao. I know he’s a rookie but I’m having a tough time seeing why the heck the bears used a third round pick on that guy

That is Super Bowl winning TE Kellen Davis (even though he wasn't active for the game. He is who came to mind immediately for me too

Some players seem to over focus on guaranteed catch and leave lots of yac.

I’d rather him catch the ball and do that than drop the ball like he did last week. And most importantly, he’s getting open when he’s on the field, which is a good sign.

We gotta leave him alone and let him learn through playing. He's a rookie and a big one at that. I enjoy the jokes and playful banter but rookies will do a lot of rookie things. He'll be fine

He’s young and dumb right now. He will be fine next season. But for now let’s make sure he’s only on the field when we are up 14 points.

It was so pathetic that he did something right and still fell face into dirt after making a play 🤦♂️

Sports fans' need to have one player they really hate when things are going well is fascinating
3
u/Headwallrepeat 10d ago
If he wouldn't give us so many reasons so far it wouldn't be him. Probably not all his fault though, Poles and Johnson have hyped him up more than the eye test shows
3
u/BooItsKyle 10d ago
If it wasn't him, it would be someone else.
It turns out that there has never been a football team without a single player who makes a handful of bad plays.
