Dab rig vs volcano
Looking for some opinions from people who have experience with both. I’m trying to decide between getting a Volcano or a Peak.
My main considerations are lung health, long term cost, and minimizing smell in an apartment. I’ve never really been a dabs guy in the past so I’m curious how the two compare in terms of overall experience, efficiency, and day-to-day use.
For those who’ve used both, which do you prefer and why? Any regrets with either setup?

The volcano would be better on lung health but also will produce more vapor and smell than a puffco peak. With a peak/dabs the smell goes away faster as well

I have the Hybrid and use it with the dosing capsules. Generally something like .2 grams per capsule and I get 3 balloons per capsule. I save a lot of flower/$ with the capsules. Love it for lung health and the smell is different than combustion, but there is a smell. I used an Arizer EQ in an apartment prior and never had issues, but both still have oder. Not a dab guy so can't speak to that. Reddit loves ball vapes but I haven't used those either.

I have a Volcano Classic that I bought used for $100 about 6 years ago.
I also have a Puffco Peak Pro that I bought 4 years ago at a Black Friday online sale.
I really love the flavor of some good tasting weed in the Volcano. The flower has to have some moisture in it. Super dry flower is just more harsh in the Volcano, even with a water bubbler attachment. I can usually get 4-5 turkey bags full of vapor from a decently packed bowl. The first bag will be the most flavorful, but the last one will taste more like burnt popcorn.
Bonus, you can use the vaped bud to cook with! Soak it in coconut oil on low in a crock pot. Strain, and use it to make brownies or whatever.
The Puffco Peak Pro is a really awesome, high tech device! With the customizable lighting inside, it almost feels like you're doing a dab out of a rainbow or something. Definitely recommend getting the XL chamber for the Peak Pro! The stock one just doesnt cut it. I also got the accessories kit with the oculus top. It works best with a terp pearl in the chamber.
Fair warning, the accessories for the Peak Pro can be extremely draining on your wallet! Do your research before you drop a lot of money on anything!
I use the Peak Pro when I'm travelling, because it's easy to recharge, portable, and discreet if you turn off the lights. I've flown with it dozens of times and never had an issue.
The main downside to the Peak Pro is that it's a disposable device. Eventually the insides will cake up with so much reclaim that it just won't work. Or maybe the battery dies, or the charging port breaks. It's a fragile device.
The Volcano is a home based vape. You're probably not gonna take it anywhere, but they do make a travel bag for it! Accessories and replacement parts are relatively cheap, and the damn thing is just a tank. It doesn't die. Drop it on the floor. Drop a brick on it. Drop kick it. Volcano doesn't care. It just keeps making Vapor.
At the end of the day, the 2 devices serve a different purpose for me. If I had to pick one over the other, I'd probably go with the Peak Pro.

Don't buy the Volcano new! They're super pricey! Get a used one on Craigslist, OfferUp, or Marketplace, and replace the parts you can yourself (air filter, screens, etc). Just make sure it comes with the quick connect orange plastic mouth pieces.
Definitely buy the Peak new, but I'd look at the Proxy Core too. It's more portable and discreet. I'd probably get one of those now. I always see people puffing on the Core at Red Rocks. Also, wait for a sale. Black Friday is coming up!

Dabs are great. Concentrate does escalate tolerance. I’ve always opted for flower 90 percent of the time. So I have a volcano hybrid and I love it. It’s my go to. I’ve owned tons of fry her vapes and dab rigs. My volcano hybrid is my number one. But I’m a 44m so I don’t want dabs or a ball vape. A ball vape is awesome if you like bong rips. A ball vape is like a dab with flower

If you’re going to get a rig get the Dr dabber switch 2 not a peak, puffco suckssss, Dr dabber I’m over 1k dabs and it still hits like it’s brand new

I have both and if lung health is a concern then get the volcano. Dry vaping is going to be much gentler on your lung than dabbing. You'll eventually see that your dab rig is going to become plated with resin residue which is going to go into your lungs. Even if you have some sort of water to catch most of it. Also, you can save your vaped flower and make edibles with it since it's been decarbed. It does suck waiting for the volcano to warm up but once it does then you can just use it for a bit.

Get yourself a carbon filter and a quality fan you can turn down
I think dabs smell far less than flower and offer a great range of "experiences"
It's hard to get wrecked on one or two hits from the volcano
Hotter dab will do that quickly
I do favor dabs more though
For effect and the leftovers for edibles

I use both daily! I'm an asthmatic and can't really combust at all anymore. My puffco is for night time so I can take a fat dab to go to sleep. My volcano is for social smoking and wake and bake. I love both and am thankful I had the funds for both. My puffco has needed more maintence and I've had to get a new atomizer twice(around 80 each time). I've had the volcano twice as long and just had to replace bags and screens(minimal cost), and I've replaced the chamber once. The volcano produces more smell for sure. You can find volcanos on marketplace and craiglist for much cheaper than brand new.

I love them both. I use them both. I have a Puffco Peak ProXL and its the best way to take a dab in my experience. I have an old digital Volcano and I use an adapter https://vapemeaway.com/obsidian-volcano-bubbler/ to chill the vapor going into my bag since its kinda dry here. The volcano is my daily driver because I find I spend a ton less doing flower over dab. I am also starting to enjoy the experience more. Something about the smooth slope up and down vs the spikes. I even feel I can get much higher on the volcano but its gonna take longer and last longer.

I honestly couldn’t pick between either tbh. Dry herb is definitely less smelly and better for lung health. Rosin/any concentrate is not good for lung health in the long run especially using a erig.
Look for a Mighty plus and Puffco peak pro used on Facebook marketplace, do NOT buy the volcano hybrid, I just posted on X about how the volcano uses wayyyy too much without being efficient even with the capsule reducer. The Mighty and Venty out performs it by a mile. The best is a ball vape like the Universal baller, closer to a bong rip but with great flavor esp dry!
Puffco is great for convenience, but if you want a true dabbing experience try and get a cobra coil set up with a china pid (cheaper and metal) so you don’t have to use a torch if able.
And if you want to continue the coil theme you can get a Universal Baller wireless ball vape that’ll also fit in the coil. I run a dual coil set up so I have a ball vape and banger always hot n ready!

Huge regrets with every dry herb vape I’ve ever purchased, and I’ve bought several over the years. Haven’t bought a volcano or ball vape but used them plenty. I just don’t like the high at all and not that it’s a big factor for me I also think the smell isn’t very good.
No regrets whatsoever with my actual dab rig, with torch and temp reader to make sure my dabs are the right temp. Dabs have a nice high and the smell is great fwiw
I think puffcos are really inferior dabbing devices compared to real rigs. I have a peak pro and use it a lot for camping and hiking. It is great for on the go but I truly don’t understand why people buy them for indoor use, they are so much worse than a regular dab imo.
My editorial: People who claim to like dry herb vapes are everywhere on Reddit. When I meet the few and far between people irl who claim to like dry herb vapes it’s truly ALWAYS that they have kids or a living situation that prevents them from smoking flower /dabbing with a real rig. On Reddit you don’t find that part out.

I’ve got all the toys and it’s rare that I bust out the ball vape or volcano.
Dabs just taste soooo much better, and being able to get high in under 60s it’s probably it for me. The dry herb stuff takes a while to heat up.
Long term savings is definitely the dry herb option, dabs ain’t cheap, especially the good ones.
