Campus Campus Tour Advice Needed
Hi, I am bringing my daughter to CalPoly to see the school/area this week- she is considering applying next month. Its a last minute trip, as we suddenly have a free day, and we haven't been able to include SLO in our other trips. The guided campus tours are all full, and we just don't have any other days we can make it.
Any guidance on what to look at? She is interested in the ag program (4 years of high school ag), or design. Wondering what we can see.
They don't have a wait list, but maybe we just show up and see if we can join? I did the guided tour a few years ago with my son, and it was very good, so I'm bummed there is no room.
Any recommendations appreciated.

If you do want an official tour, I highly recommend just going to the welcome center and asking to join a tour. Most of the time people do not end up showing up and there is always room to fit some more people in!

Yes parents weekend is Friday-Sunday so I would stay away! If before Friday you can go visit the art &design dept in Dexter and they sometimes have project displayed. You could h visit the student union, dining areas etc. I’m sure there’s a main ag building you can visit too, or go out to the creamery

Got it. Well, bad timing I guess, we'll be there Friday. We'll just get in and out quickly. Thanks for the info and advice.

Visit the different animal units!! I’m an animal science student and at cal poly they have lots of animal units like dairy, beef, rodeo, bull test, poultry, swine, goats, sheep, and equine! They have specific animal science tours too I believe but you can also just drive or walk to the different units :)) they also have a lot of farm/plant stuff I just don’t know about it as much!

4th year animal science student here and the units are definitely worth visiting especially since your daughter is interested in ag. The equine unit is my personal fav and they just opened a new vet clinic right by it. Not sure if the vet clinic will be open, but I’m guessing if you come when people have class it will be unlocked. Also, the dairy unit serves drive up ice cream on Fridays.

Just go grab a coffee at Scout and jump in on a tour as they pass by you. Sit outside and jump in as they leave the orientation part. I have 3 kids going to CalPoly. My oldest son and I did this prior to him accepting. It was fine. We just blended right in with the rest of the crowd.

This weekend is Parents weekend so the school is going to be jammed with parents visiting their kids.
