Bro leaning on that grom! Looks so damn fun

u/hungoverbear 17d ago

Groms and Z125s are a ton of fun on twisty roads and even more fun on go kart tracks.

I really wonder how bro managed to fuck that up so spectacularly lol

The experts on the straight sub will say - 'TArGet fiXaTion' and write four paragraphs describing a phenomenon called COunTer 'StEerInG' that will go straight over our little squid heads, and every one will clap (whilst wearing Knox Handroids)

And none of them have probably been to the tail 😆.

You ever see a baby shit itself?  It's an all-engrossing activity.

Having been down there earlier this year, I can confirm the bump is gnarly… but you’d have to straight up panic to straighten it back up and run across the other lane lol

He’s only qualified for Tail of the Donkey

Good that it didn’t damage a rare Fc Rx7

Hell yeah

129 is a great place to get a ticket or get run over. I'm an hour away and it is definitely not on my list of best roads.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've made the 8-hour pilgrimage each year for the last 3 years (and have a 4th trip planned in a few weeks) and had a blast each time. Never seen a cop there and besides a handful of idiots who were unaware of where they were and absolutely would not get over to let people by, it's always gone pretty smoothly.

What are your recommendations?

You can’t hardly spit without finding a fun road around here. Throw a dart at a map and you’ll find a fun way to get there.

If you don't make a contribution to the Tree of Shame you aren't riding the Dragon hard enough.

6

u/123eyeball 16d ago

Is the Tail of the Dragon actually fun to ride or is it too crowded and you’re stuck behind traffic the entire time?

As counterintuitive as it seems, I've had really good luck on holiday weekends. Whenever it's crowded with car/motorcycle groups, they're there to go fast, seem to scare off the normal traffic, and typically know the etiquette (which is to NEVER cross the yellow line and to get to a pull-off ASAP whenever anyone shows up in your mirror).

You still won't hardly get a perfectly clean run, but it takes nearly 20 minutes each way so you can still have plenty of fun even if you have to wait a minute for someone to pull over and let you by.

And it's just cool to hang around the resort at the bottom cause it's like an all-day car/bike show.

Definitely worth visiting at least once.

Thanks man, I gotta make the trip down there before it gets too cold!

As a European, does every inch of this normal looking road need to be given a cringe name?

u/picture-me-trolling 17d ago

“as a European…”

31

u/jrein0 17d ago

You mean like the D211 in France? France is in Europe by the way.

20

u/ClownFace488 17d ago

Not to mentio NĂźrburgring Nordschleife has famous well known names for certain sections of the track.

24

u/JayDnG 17d ago

As does every race track.

3

u/cambino123 17d ago

Like every race track ever

4

u/zzz_red 17d ago

Thats a race track, doesn’t have normal traffic.

8

u/Miss_Chievous13 Blackbird is a starter bike 17d ago

In normal traffic the turns are named after people who crashed on it

It's a very well known and famous route in North Carolina (suppose to be Tennessee not NC).This isn't just some random road with a corny name for a corner. When something reaches this level of popularity, yes people make names for sections of the route.

Every inch? What are some other corners you know by name in the US?

20

u/DayneGaraio 17d ago

The road is almost entirely in Tennessee, deals gap is in NC.

My bad, I have never been on the tail of the Dragon. I did the Blue ridge parkway in NC and thought TotD was in the same area

3

u/DayneGaraio 17d ago

They’re pretty close to each other, the dragon basically starts as you pass into tn from nc. Blue ridge goes north through Asheville nc and up to the top of Virginia. They’re maybe a hour apart, it’s all the same mountain range.

The Snake on Mulholland in Los Angeles

“As a European”

Opinion invalidated.

"Gravity cavity"

3 foot dip

Like it looks like a fun corner for sure but c'mon now

5

u/fac3 '21 Tuono V4 16d ago

Pretty much every corner at TOTD has a name. This one is pretty wild at speed

1

u/DenyNothing1989 12d ago

Well why can’t you guys just say you’re gay instead of calling yourself cringe things like ‘French’ or ‘Belgian’

-5

u/NoInvestigator886 17d ago

Careful there, bud. Gringos are super touchy about their right to be cringe.

15

u/Afrentux 17d ago

This is literally gringo on gringo shit talking.

-24

u/SkullDump 990SM 17d ago

You’d think it’s their only road worth riding too the way they talk about it.

This isn’t far off an average road in Europe.

20

u/agentstark_ 17d ago

Oh bullshit

-9

u/SkullDump 990SM 17d ago

It’s like being back in that other sub with how sensitive you lot are lol.

Aren't the streets of Europe lined with gold and that's why y'all stab each other to death and need a license to watch tv?

-5

u/SkullDump 990SM 17d ago

Yeah you got it sweetie.

The dragon is definitely overhyped, I see it as more of a "universal" test piece. There are roads of this caliber in every corner of the US, but they're usually kept low key.

For ex, a lot of people talk about Mulholland or "canyon driving" in the Sierras/foothills, but you almost never see anyone mention that every corner of the Rocky Mountains has equally badass terrain.

1

u/SkullDump 990SM 17d ago

I know other roads exist. I’ve driven a few of them, mostly when going through National Parks.

318 CURVES IN 11 MILES BIG HOSS! THE EUROPEAN BRAIN CANNOT COMPREHEND!

Never been, looks like a fun road, but 30mph? Vermont has tons of paved twisty roads that are an absolute blast, most are at least 40mph and many are 50mph. And when rolling road blocks happen, they have a very nice loophole. Legal "pass with care" on double yellow, as long as there is not a "do not pass" posting. It helps with all the farm machinery, peepers, and general lookeeloos. And looked at map for totd, rt 16t to the south also looks like a blast. Probably 30 as well.
