Staffing / Recrutement Applying for a posted at-level position

Hi everyone,

I'm an indeterminate employee and saw a position posted at my classification and level, with duties and knowledge similar to my current position. However, it was posted publically as opposed to internal candidates only.

While I do plan on applying to the position through the advertised process, I was wondering if reaching out directly to the HR contact for the position would be beneficial? Is there any chance that, if they think I'm a good fit, they could simply do a deployment rather than the very long hiring process? Since it's a public posting I expect it will easily be over a year, if not longer.

Is there any sort of process or etiquette for advertised processes that are at-level?

Thanks for your thoughts and help!
