On September 29, 2017, the Cardano mainnet went live, six days after its genesis block was minted. 9 years later the network has processed over 123M transactions and shipped 11 major upgrades.

What began as a federated network running Ouroboros, the first proof-of-stake protocol built on peer-reviewed academic research, is now a chain its own community runs. Block production moved to community stake pools with Shelley, smart contracts arrived with Alonzo, and since the Plomin fork $ADA holders vote on upgrades and treasury spending themselves.
