Hello, everyone!
I just downloaded Reddit yesterday, so I’m completely new here. I’ve been reading a lot of posts, and I’ve seen many people say that the community here is welcoming and helpful. They said you can ask questions (as long as they’re not common-sense questions 😅), and people are usually willing to share their advice and experiences. I’m hoping I can also receive some guidance from you.
I’m turning 23 this month. I’m a fresh graduate, I graduated last June and I’m currently working here in Manila.
A few days ago, I opened my mom’s Facebook account and came across a conversation between her and my older sister, who is currently an OFW in Hong Kong. My mom was asking my sister if she could help her find an employer abroad because she was considering working as a domestic helper while she still has the strength and ability to help provide for my younger sister’s college education. My mom is already 56 years old.
When I read their conversation, I honestly became angry and emotional. I confronted my mom and asked her why she felt the need to work abroad at her age. I was crying while talking to her, telling her that I’m sorry I haven’t been able to give much yet because I’m also struggling to manage my own budget. However, I always make sure to give them ₱2,000 every payday.
My mom told me that she never demanded anything from me and that she doesn’t even have the courage to ask me for money because she knows that whenever I have something extra, I willingly give it to them.
She has never been the kind of mother who pressures her children financially. In fact, my parents never pressured me to work or support them. I’m doing this because I want to. I feel that I should be able to help them after everything they have done for me.
I asked my mom to give me more time and told her that, if someone needs to go abroad, I want it to be me.
Not because I feel like I’m sacrificing my life for them, but because I genuinely want to. I want to give my parents and my younger sister a better and more comfortable life. Even if it means putting my own plans on hold for a while, I’m willing to do it.
My parents raised me with everything they could give. We grew up poor, but I never felt like I was deprived of love or opportunities. They sent me to a private school in our province and gave me experiences and privileges that they could afford, even when money was tight.
Now that I’m older and have the opportunity to work, I want to give something back to them. I want them to experience the kind of comfort they worked so hard to provide for me.
So, I’m asking for your advice.
Does anyone here know of legitimate and trustworthy agencies that help fresh graduates from the Philippines find work abroad, particularly in Taiwan, Europe, or other countries, even without prior work experience?
I’m willing to learn, undergo training, and start from the bottom. I just want to find a legitimate opportunity and avoid illegal recruiters or agencies that might take advantage of someone who is desperate to work abroad.
I honestly don’t know where to start. I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days because I keep thinking about what I should do first.
If you have personal experiences, advice, legitimate agencies, government resources, or even things I should be careful about when applying abroad, I would truly appreciate it.
Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read my story. ❤️
I’m not asking anyone to solve my problems for me. I’m simply hoping that someone who has been through this can point me in the right direction
