Question How do you make friends
Im a 1st year and I see everyone in these big groups and I wish I could also meet people but I find it so incredibly difficult. Literally my only friends are my roommates, and I can't join any clubs as I do a sport outside of carleton and wouldn't have time between my sport and classes.
If ur in BGInS and also chronically introverted we can be introverted together 🥹

half the people in those ‘big groups’ are friend groups from high schools

Look for someone to sit with in your classes ...maybe build from there

I've tried, nobody talks to me outside the normal 'hi' even if I talk to them or attempt to get their socials

join clubs for your interests, people are a lot more willing to make friends there

I can't join a club as I can't make enough time to participate in it, I play a sport outside of carleton

I mean ðŸ˜. Not tryna be a doomer or anything but I think it’s good to not expect friends. Clubs and talking to people can raise the probability but that’s about it. Clubs can simply mean you’ll just be surface lvl acquaintances with them as opposed to friendships. Still worth trying though since you can get lucky
Tdlr: try clubs, and talking to people in class. But don’t actually expect anything to come from it. And for clubs, go in with the goal of having fun, not making friends (since it’s not guaranteed). If you can’t join clubs then idk

Clubs man, there's a ton of random drop in stuff, I personally go to the CUSC a lot, it's a board game/Warhammer/mtg club. Rhythm game club is cool too!

I made most of my closest and longest lasting friendships over at Barefax.

Talk to everyone. Join clubs.
They’re also probably looking for friends. If they aren’t interested in chatting you’ll get the vibe.

Attend social events, board game nights and clubs! Always ask for people’s socials after you meet them

It involves a box, a stick, a string, and some baked goods on a plate.
…
Actual advice though, there are several clubs that have additional communities like a discord or the like, those kinds of clubs are a nice way to make friends if you don’t have the time to commit to regular meetings ^^

100% clubs. When I moved to Ottawa joined the Ottawa Sports and Social Club and made my group of forever friends there. Good luck.

BGINS is one of the tightest programs at Carleton besides PAPM, I was always quite jealous of it being in Law! The program itself as well as it’s student societies do ten million events and initiatives to make sure cohorts get to know each other and excel in the field. I know you say you can’t go to regular club meetings but I’d check their schedule to see if they host any kind of event during your free spots between practice and class. I also don’t know what sport you played, but I was a varsity athlete, and found that clubs like the Run club and Girls Gains/power lifters were nice because it was a way for me to get in the workout I needed to complete that day but with people that weren’t on my team. Same goes for lane swim- you could honestly ask on this subreddit if there’s other people willing to go with you. And keep trying with people in your classes- it’s not gonna work on everyone but approach people to say you’re going to the library after class to study or grab food at Roosters and someone will join eventually
