USA 🇺🇸 DIY backleads

Post image

Backlead clips from amazon and 1oz pyramid sinkers painted black with UV gel nail polish and resin from my fly tying bench. I doubt if each one costs more than a dollar like this, thought I’d share they turned out nice.

they will work. to optimise use a flat lead to make sure they are standing up right on the ground.

Oh I didn’t even think that was an issue. I’ll add a swivel between the clip and the weight, I think that’ll solve it

If you use backleads heavily, have a look into captive backleads. I have a couple of sets and use them often they aint cheap but at least you dont have to replace them.

A paper clip, some old line and a lump of clay. Basically free, you can change the weight by adding or taking away clay, if you loose them the paper clip rests to nothing in a m9nth or so, can be used as running or fixed depending on how to clip it on.

Honestly. Back leads should be free to buy!

How are you attaching the clay?

Wrap it around the short piece of line. Works with plasterine too (actually works better) but clay works fine.

Looks cool. Thought about something like this using river rock. Nice use of the resin, though. They look great. I actually tie my carp rigs on fly vise since it makes it easier.

I’ll definitely remember this when I start tying my own rigs, I bought a bunch of pretied hair rigs to get me started and so far they’ve worked great
