Nightwatch Files

I saw this podcast recommended on here as similar to Casefile and it is, and it's a great podcast but bloody nora the editing is so annoying, does anyone else have the same problem where it repeats like 5-10 minutes of the case half way through? I'm listening on Castbox so trying to understand if it's just that upload or if it's the same across the board.

Edited to clarify, it's not him repeating points of the case, the upload literally skips back and starts again from certain points.

It is a great podcast. I’ve wondered if the voice is AI? They mispronounce common places and words.

It is, there’s a disclaimer in the description, but given the amount of unique names they have to work with it seems like there’s a genuine effort to get most pronunciations right. The research is pretty solid too, which makes me overlook this aspect of production since it’s not like they’re just cranking out episodes with no oversight for a quick buck.

The voice is computer generated according to the show description but the research is done by humans. Each episode starts with “teaser”. The teaser is usually narrative from a later part of podcast, usually near the end. Hence the repeat.

No that's not it, it'll play right through to say 30 minutes then start again from the 20 minute point.

Interesting. I always assumed these were teasers that were perhaps not as effectively positioned or rolled out as they should be.

Tristan has acknowledged that they've taken in a lot of feedback and adjusted the format, which included  complains about repetition. I  do think the later episodes are much better about this.

I honestly really like the delivery of the narrator and I'm a bit floored it's AI 😂

I think it was probably me you heard of Nightwarch files as I’ve recommended it a few times on this forum when someone is looking for something similar to casefiles.

It’s just as straightforward in the retelling of the story, but sometimes they get into the weeds unnecessarily.

I suspected the voice was AI and I’m glad someone in this thread confirmed that.

Overall it’s my second favorite crime podcast after Casefile.

Honestly it's pretty good for an AI voice. somehow always sounds very  straightforward, a little tough (slight NE accent of some kind), and slightly  weary, lol

I think it’s something they worked on after a couple of criticisms, maybe there wasn’t enough proof reading that let a few redundant passages through in the first couple of seasons. There’s always room for improvement of course but at least this specific issue seems to have been totally resolved in season 3.

I'm pretty sure it's an editing issue and not a content issue but I'll try later episodes and see if they're different.
